Travel Respiratory Therapist

American Traveler is seeking a Respiratory Therapist for a 13-week acute care assignment with day/night rotating shifts, requiring 2+ years experience and multiple critical care certifications.

Job Details

• Acute care setting in a 127-bed inpatient hospital,
• Covers all inpatient areas, ED, inpatient and outpatient EKGs, and outpatient bronchoscopies in a procedural setting,
• Patient population is mainly adults, with a pediatric inpatient unit and family birthing unit (no c-sections),
• Department staffs 7 RTs during the day and 5 at night, with 40-70 treatments per therapist,
• May manage up to 8-9 ventilators in the ICU at a time,
• May be called to initiate CPAP on an infant,
• Uses Puritan Bennett 840, Hamilton C1, Avea, Bipap v60, and Vapotherm equipment,
• EMR used is Expanse - hCare,
• 12-hour day/night rotating shifts (0645-1915, 1845-0715), set schedule made 4 weeks in advance,
• Every other weekend required, with option for weekend-only schedules,
• Works Christmas and New Years if scheduled,
• Floating required within facility only,
• No call or standby call requirement,

Job Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience required,
• ER, ICU, and inpatient adult experience required,
• Pediatric experience preferred; training provided,
• ACLS, BLS (AHA), NRP, PALS, and STABLE certifications required,
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) via NBRC required; RRT preferred,
• Assists with intubation only, not required to intubate independently,
• License required if applicable,
• Professional appearance required: any color professional scrubs, no long nails, men must be clean shaven,

Additional Information

• Performs breathing treatments, ventilator management, ABG draws and sample running, and EKGs for inpatient and outpatient areas,
• Core RTs may place arterial lines,
• Assignments are distributed using a points system to balance workload across areas,
• No critical care transport outside the facility required,
• Lead therapist or supervisor available for support at all times,
• Open ICU model with 2 pulmonologists on staff and a hospitalist in house 24/7,
• Orientation includes a general first day, classroom orientation and modules on day two, followed by approximately 3 days of shadowing with a preceptor,
• All travelers begin on inpatient units before branching out to other areas,
• Facility conducts a second interview and will assess traveler skills onsite to determine appropriate assignment areas
