We are hiring an Engineering Manager to lead a team within Simple Trade, a vital part of the Consumer Product Group. Simple Trade is responsible for Coinbase’s core retail trading experience and is expanding its offerings from crypto into equities. You will have the opportunity to build and lead a talented engineering team, creating cross‑asset trading systems, unified account infrastructure, and new regulatory integrations. This is a unique chance to shape our core trading infrastructure from the ground up and deliver products that manage real money securely and efficiently for millions of users. Key Responsibilities & Impact Build and guide a high‑performing engineering team, overseeing the creation of features, services, and infrastructure across web and mobile platforms that drive Coinbase's retail trading experience. Own and define the technical roadmap for your team’s focus areas, driving execution on cross‑asset trading systems, unified account infrastructure, and regulatory integrations, translating product vision into feasible technical delivery. Collaborate cross‑functionally with Product, Design, and senior leadership to ensure coherence between business objectives and engineering priorities, providing clarity on strategic direction in a fast‑paced and sometimes ambiguous environment. Coach and develop your direct reports, aiding in their career advancement while enabling them to make a meaningful impact within the organization. Set high standards for talent acquisition and collaborate with Recruiting to bring in exceptional engineers. Promote engineering excellence through thoughtful architectural decisions, fostering a culture of high‑quality code, and ensuring compliance with engineering SLAs regarding reliability, performance, and operational health. Act as a hands‑on technical leader when necessary, engaging in design reviews, code reviews, and delving into technical intricacies to remove obstacles and maintain credibility. Minimum Qualifications 7+ years in software engineering, with substantial experience in building and managing distributed systems on a large scale. 2+ years in an engineering management role, with a successful record of building, coaching, and retaining high‑performing teams. Experience designing, constructing, and maintaining production services that evolve over time — particularly systems that handle real money, ensuring low latency and high availability. Strong technical judgment, capable of balancing long‑term strategy with short‑term execution effectively. A proven ability to collaborate across teams with Product and Design, converting ambiguous product goals into clear technical initiatives. Experience in creating, delivering, and managing multi‑tenant, distributed systems at scale. A demonstrated capability to responsibly utilize generative AI tools in daily work, adapting to continuous evolution in technology and applying human‑in‑the‑loop strategies for improved efficiency and quality. Preferred Qualifications Experience developing trading platforms, brokerage systems, or financial products at scale, particularly within equities, crypto, or multi‑asset environments. Familiarity with equities market structure, settlement systems, or brokerage infrastructure. Experience launching new business lines or products from concept to execution within a public company or rapidly growing startup. $218,025 - $256,500 USD
