Director of Development

Role Description The Director of Development is a full-time, on-site role based in Greater Boston, responsible for leading and implementing a comprehensive fundraising strategy that supports the organization’s mission and programs. This position oversees all aspects of development, including annual and planned giving, major gifts, donor cultivation and stewardship, foundation and corporate support, and fundraising events. Typical day-to-day activities include managing the development team and budget, analyzing fundraising performance, preparing reports for leadership and the board, and ensuring accurate donor records and data systems. The Director collaborates closely with the Executive Director, program staff, and communications to align messaging, create compelling cases for support, and engage donors and prospects through meetings, presentations, and community events. The role also includes developing strategic partnerships, mentoring staff, and fostering a culture of philanthropy across the organization. Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in Fundraising and Philanthropy, with a track record of securing and growing diverse revenue streams. Experience leading Planned Giving and Annual Giving programs, including strategy development and donor cultivation. Strong Budgeting and financial management skills, with the ability to create, monitor, and report on development budgets. Proven success in donor stewardship, relationship-building, and major gifts solicitation. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft compelling fundraising materials and presentations. Leadership experience managing staff or teams, fostering collaboration, and supporting professional growth. Commitment to racial, social, and economic justice, with cultural humility and experience working in diverse communities. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, communications, business, or a related field; advanced degree is a plus. Proficiency with donor management databases and standard office software; comfort using data to inform strategy.
