Project Coordinator - Safety Projects, Daylighting

The Transportation Planning and Management Division (TPM) is responsible for the safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible movement of people and goods on the City's streets, supporting the larger goals of economic and social vitality for people living, working, and doing business in New York City. The Division's responsibilities include planning, street design, technical analysis, signs, transit development, freight mobility and markings, ensuring the safety of motor vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and cyclists. The Office of Research, Implementation, and Safety (RIS) is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to making the streets of New York City safer for all users as part of Vision Zero, a citywide policy striving to eliminate serious injuries and fatalities from traffic crashes. RIS's Safety Projects and Programs team is seeking candidates for its Project Coordinator: Safety Projects/Daylighting position. The candidate will be responsible for planning, developing, designing, and implementing Street Improvement Projects to improve safety for pedestrians, motor vehicles, bicyclists, and motorcyclists. The position will focus on incorporating proven safety treatments, including (but not limited to) "hardened daylighting" at intersections, to improve visibility for all users. Key tasks for this position include performing research and crash analysis to identify high crash locations, scoping and designing safety improvement projects for high crash locations, analyzing traffic data, preparing reports/graphics and maps, conducting field work including on-site evaluations and field meetings, coordinating project implementation, and providing technical assistance to senior staff. The selected candidates will also be required to participate in community outreach, including developing outreach plans and materials, meetings with public officials, Community Boards, and inter- and intra-agency stakeholders. The ideal candidates should be detail-oriented, accurate, capable team players, and possess excellent communication skills.
