Under the general direction of the Area Manager of the Sacramento Area Office, the Office Technician (Typing) provides clerical support and performs office duties for the Area Manager and Regional Manager. The incumbent performs calendar management, meeting scheduling, and front desk duties, including answering phones, checking email, submitting travel claims, assisting with timesheets, preparing documents, and tracking projects. The Office Technician is responsible for adhering to civil service laws, as well as departmental and division rules, policies, and procedures. The incumbent demonstrates professionalism, works cooperatively with DOSH/DIR management and employees, stakeholders, and the public, and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. The incumbent will perform the following duties with a high degree of accuracy.

The incumbent works in an air-conditioned office building with natural and artificial lighting and temperature control. In addition, the incumbent works in a cubicle in close proximity to others in a typical office setting. Typical work requires use of the computer and telephone for extended periods of time and interaction with co-workers.
Special Requirements
- The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. Additional information regarding acceptable typing tests is available at the CalCareers.ca.gov website.
Typing Certificate – 40 WPM typing certificate issued within the last four (4) years and certified from a five (5) minute typing test.

Excellent customer service; business English and modern English usage. Proficient knowledge of: Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, FileMaker Pro, and Adobe Acrobat.
Knowledge: modern office methods, including supplies and equipment; business English and correspondence; principles of effective trainingSkills: writing skills to prepare comprehensive reports and summaries; communication and presentation skills to move information between the sender and receiver; computer skills; organizational and time management skills. Abilities: perform technical clerical work, including ability to spell correctly; use good English; make arithmetical computations; operate various office machines; follow oral and written directions; maintain and organize files; meet and deal tactfully with the public and co-workers; follow rules and office policies and procedures; prepare correspondence independently utilizing a wide knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, punctuation, and spelling; communicate effectively; interpret, proofread, and edit various documents, report types, and narratives.
