TITLE: College Aide - Michael J. Grant Campus Brentwood CAMPUS: Grant Campus in Brentwood TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Part Time RANK: Civil Service Position Description College Aides provide routine clerical and paraprofessional support to full‑time staff across various departments of Suffolk County Community College. Work is performed according to well‑defined procedures, under the supervision of a full‑time employee, and may include related tasks as assigned. Distinguishing Features of the Class Employees in this class efficiently complete clerical duties, assist with library operations, help with audiovisual and computer equipment, and support departmental functions such as mail handling, inventory, and student assistance. Typical Work Activities Post simple data to manual and automated office records. Receive and check applications, vouchers, or other forms for accuracy and completeness. Assist in the library by filing cards, shelving books, and helping at the check‑out desk. Operate audiovisual, computer, and other electronic equipment. Perform simple, unskilled typing duties. Assist in departmental operations, including sorting and distributing mail, issuing supplies, conducting inventories, maintaining records, answering phones, and supporting students. Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics Some knowledge of office terminology, procedures, and clerical techniques; basic business English, spelling, and arithmetic skills; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; ability to learn assigned tasks and adhere to procedures; ability to read, copy, and record figures; ability to use computers and peripheral equipment; effective interpersonal skills and physical capability to meet the demands of the position. Minimum Qualifications There are no minimum educational or experiential requirements for this title. Hiring Salary and Schedule Hourly rate: $17.00 (non‑negotiable). The position is part time and limited to a maximum of 17.0 hours per week. Schedules vary depending on departmental need.
