Accounts Receivable Specialist

The University of Minnesota seeks an Accounts Receivable Specialist I to support the Financial Operation Center department within the Controller’s Office. Under general supervision, the specialist is responsible for performing basic accounts receivable activities and financial reporting transactions for a portfolio of Resource Responsibility Centers (RRC) in the Finance Operations Center. The role also involves collaboration with accounts receivable services and finance professionals to ensure timely support. The ideal candidate is a professional, team player, detail‑oriented, and comfortable with technology such as TeamDynamix, Google Suite, and proficient in verbal and written communication. The role is located in the Twin Cities campus and requires a hybrid schedule. Responsibilities Accounts Receivable (85%) Review and analyze billing, foundation transfer, and invoice adjustment requests, resolve conflicts, and ensure invoicing accuracy. Collaborate with University staff, external customers, and colleagues for clarification of billing requests, policy requirements, and best practices. Analyze customer information in the Enterprise Financial System versus service request data and update or create records as needed. Process spreadsheets for mass transaction upload and assist departments with reconciliation to subsidiary systems. Analyze billing requests for sales tax applicability, customer exemptions, calculations, and consult on complex scenarios. Ensure chart‑field string integrity on billing transactions for accurate financial reporting. Apply university accounts receivable policy to various scenarios. Collaborate with Accounts Receivable Services for guidance and updates to customer records. Demonstrate holistic understanding of moderate‑complex billing requests. Review billing transactions for accuracy, set for finalization, and submit credits and rebills into the approval workflow. Identify appropriate approvals for accounts receivable activity. Collaborate with accounts payable specialists for returned goods, services, and credit memos. Act as a liaison with the UMN Foundation for fund requests and transfers. Show proficiency in key accounting and receivables functions, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, and related concepts. Professional Development (10%) Assist in development of training manuals and procedures. Engage in cross‑training opportunities to maintain coverage of functions. Complete professional development, education, and training activities. Other Duties (5%) Perform additional tasks as assigned. Qualifications BA/BS degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience (four years). Experience with standard technology platforms (word processing, data entry, email, internet browsing). Ability to read and compile information according to prescribed methods. Ability to use logic to problem‑solve and find solutions.
