Join the NC Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF) and work in a mission‑driven team that provides compassionate, whole-person care for people with complex mental health, substance use, developmental, and neuro‑medical needs. This work supports individuals whose needs go beyond what community services can currently support. The position involves specialized justice‑involved treatment units in State Psychiatric Hospitals, providing mental health care, stabilization, and recovery support in a safe setting. Why Join DSOHF? Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Ability to independently plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans. Knowledge of medications and the physiological effect of those medications. Ability to communicate information in a concise and descriptive manner, verbally, written, or by demonstration. Ability to appropriately respond to emergency situations. Conditional Requirements Advanced Physical Skills (APS) certification through the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR certification within 60 days. Valid driver's license. This position is Exempt from certain provisions of The State Human Resources Act (GS 126). This position is designated as mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events. We will be recruiting for multiple positions with this post. Your application will be considered for all noted open positions. Shift Premiums For 8-Hour Shifts Day: 10% weekend shift premium Evening: 20% shift premium plus an additional 10% weekend shift premium Night: 20% shift premium plus an additional 10% weekend shift premium For 12-Hour Shifts Day (7:00 am-7:30 pm): 20% shift premium for the hours from 3:30 pm - 7:30 pm plus an additional 10% weekend shift premium Evenings/ Night (7:00 pm-7:30 am): 20% shift premium plus an additional 10% weekend shift premium To qualify for the Sign-on Bonus, a newly hired permanent full-time or permanent part-time employee must work 30 to 40 hours per week to be eligible. Those who are eligible and working less than 40 hours a week will receive a prorated rate. All Sign-on Bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire. Bonus is only available at State Psychiatric Hospitals and does not apply to administrative, educator, or non-direct care nursing positions. Installments are paid in accordance with requirements outlined in the sign-on bonus agreement. Compensation and Benefits The state of North Carolina offers excellent comprehensive benefits. About Central Regional Hospital (CRH) CRH is a State‑of‑the‑Art psychiatric hospital located in Butner, NC. Our location offers a four-season climate and a convenient commute to the NC mountains or beaches. The area provides small‑town charm and is within 30 minutes of a major metropolitan area including Research Triangle Park, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, and Durham. The team is dedicated to the mission of the hospital and to positively impacting the lives of the individuals we serve. Nursing Unit Descriptions Adult Admissions Unit (AAU) : Serves patients ages 18-64 with primary psychiatric and medical diagnoses, including substance abuse. Child & Adolescent Unit (CAU) : Evaluates and treats children ages 5 to 17. Divisions include Children’s Services and Adolescent Services. Community Transition Unit (CTU) : Adults 18-64 with severe mental illness; admissions may be transferred from AAU for long‑term treatment. Forensic Services Unit (FSU) : Adults 18+ treated under involuntary commitment after Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity or found incapable to proceed. Geriatric Services Unit (GSU) : Patients 65+ with primary psychiatric diagnoses and potential dementia; includes behaviors such as agitation and aggression. Medical Psychiatric Unit (MPU) : Medical-surgical care for acute and chronic conditions, supports Emergency Response Team (CODE BLUE). Screening & Admissions Unit (SAU) : Collaborates with customers to ensure safe admissions and provide psychiatric mental-health care and supervision. Supplemental Information DHHS uses the Merit-Based Recruitment and Selection Plan. Hiring salary will be based on qualifications, internal equity, and budget. Positions are subject to pre-employment drug testing and criminal background checks. Tobacco use on campuses is prohibited. All employees are expected to adhere to the facility’s vaccination policy. Education and Experience Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of North Carolina.
