Volunteer Programmers/ User Interface Experts

IESC, in collaboration with Hello Tractor, is seeking volunteers for a unique opportunity to utilize technology skills to advance rural agricultural development. Volunteers will be experienced program developers and user experience analysts with demonstrated skills in UI/UX and Saleforces programming to support the redesign of web and mobile applications.

Time frame: Volunteer assignment to be conducted between July 25 and September 1, 2017.

Commitment:  Hello Tractor seeks volunteers willing and able to commit to a minimum of 6 hours per day, 5 days per week until the software improvements and new features are complete.

Location: Remote program development and design with potential for two weeks assignment on site in Abuja, Nigeria.

Objective: The goal of the anticipated project is to make available a suite of Hello Tractor apps to support tractor dealers and fleet owners across Africa who want to provide pay-as-you-go tractor services with their tractor inventory. Smallholder farmers often face difficulty in accessing mechanization, resulting in lower productivity. Hello Tractor’s technology directly addresses that challenge by improving timely access to tractor services for smallholder farmers.

Approach: Hello Tractor will enable dealers and users in Africa to be able to manage their tractor fleets, tractor service booking agents, and tractor operators through a platform of user interface applications with minimal training and day to day contact with HelloTractor technical support teams. A successful project will lead to scaling up of the product across Africa and make a meaningful impact on helping smallholder farmers access mechanization.  

Volunteer Tasks: At this time, IESC is calling interested and qualified programmers with experience in Salesforce to help support the redesign of new web and mobile application features and functionality for outside use.

Skills and Qualifications:

3-5 years of programming experience in Saleforce client platform development;

UI/UX design and programming experience a plus;

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field.
