Overview

The Life Enrichment Assistant works with the Life Enrichment Director to implement programs that support the interests, purposes and social needs of residents.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
• Must possess a current chauffeurs license if operating transportation vehicles and possess a current Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) if applicable.
• Preferred Certified as a Nursing Assistant – 1-year experience preferred.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Enjoys socializing, has an outgoing and friendly personality
• Must be able to express self adequately in written and oral communication and to communicate effectively in an interdisciplinary care setting with residents, families, and staff members.

Care and Services:

·         Actively implements life enrichment programs as planned and assigned to meet the functional levels, needs and interests of each Resident.

·         Honors the individual needs and preferences of residents and communicates well changes, requests and interests of residents with the Director of Life Enrichment.

·         Assists Residents to and from life enrichment programs and outing as scheduled.

·         Maintains good rapport with family members and encourages family support in programs.

·         Assists residents during meals and snacks encouraging an atmosphere of socialization.

·         Completes appropriate records indicating Resident’s attendance and participation in individual and group activities in a timely basis.  Documents ADL support functions in the POC system.

·         Provides input to the assessment and evaluation of Residents participation when requested. 

·         Communicates Resident’s concerns and responses to interventions to immediate supervisor.

·         Supports Residents individual needs, and preferences, customary routines, concerns and choices.

·         Assist and works with individual volunteers and volunteer programs at the request of the Life enrichment Director.

·         Assists residents with ADL needs that arise during planned activities such as toileting or eating/drinking.

·         Participates in long term care survey process, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.

Resident Rights: Promotes and protects resident’s rights; supports the resident in the exercise of his or her rights. Assists residents to make informed decisions; treats residents with dignity and respect; protects resident’s personal belongings; reports suspected abuse neglect, exploitation or misappropriation of property; avoids the need for physical restraints in accordance with current professional standards; supports independent expression, choice and decision-making consistent with applicable law and regulation.

Process Improvement: Applies process improvement methods and techniques and identifies processes for improvement in daily work.

Environment of Care and Safety: Assures resident environment is safe and takes necessary steps to intervene if an unsafe situation is identified; demonstrates understanding of fire and emergency procedures; participates in fire and disaster drills; demonstrates understanding of safety and security procedures; applies safety and security precautions; demonstrates understanding of hazardous materials plan; demonstrates proper use of equipment.

Infection Control: Applies hand washing principles during daily work; demonstrates understanding of isolation precautions; recognizes signs and symptoms of infection and complies with the employee health program; demonstrates understanding of the process for identifying and handling infectious waste; maintains personal hygiene; complies with OSHA standards in the work place; and demonstrates understanding of cross contamination.

Information Management: Enters or records data timely and accurately; protects confidentiality of resident information (in accordance with HIPAA policies); protects data against loss or destruction; reports suspected violation of security/confidentiality issues.

Continuing Education: Attends in-service training programs; attends continuing education required for maintenance of certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands or fingers, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear.  The employee must be able to assist to lift and/or transfer residents weighing between 100 to 250 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and peripheral vision.
