Benefits Distinctive career advancement opportunities throughout the state system Strong, secure, yet flexible retirement benefits including PERA Defined Benefit Plan or PERA Defined Contribution Plan plus 401K and 457 plans Medical and dental health plans Paid life insurance Short and long‑term disability coverage 11 paid holidays per year plus vacation and sick time Employee wellness programs Tuition reimbursement Training opportunities Job Responsibilities Conduct medical/physical examinations Order and interpret diagnostic tests and diagnose medical conditions Prescribe medications and treatment Educate patients about preventive health care Ensure minor medical procedures are performed on‑site Accountable for the work product of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, including clinical supervision and professional development Provide medical services to a daily patient caseload, including chronic care, sick call, emergencies and routine physicals Participate in the monthly on‑call schedule and provide on‑site assistance to other DOC clinical units when staffing needs arise Provide instruction, demonstration and training to other health care professionals Provide medical advice to other organizational units or health care specialties through consultation regarding patients or protocols Advise management on development of medical programs, treatment standards and clinical pathways Ensure completion of computer data entry, referrals, consultations, medical reporting, medical co‑signature and inmate grievance requirements in accordance with DOC regulations, policies and procedures, clinical standards, state statute and medical directives Maintain problem lists and M‑Code ratings in inmates' health records, identify and update housing and work restrictions, and obtain authorization numbers for consultations, diagnostic procedures and surgeries Participate in restraining an inmate primarily for medical reasons when required Attend quarterly medical review board meetings, monthly physician round‑table meetings and other division meetings Minimum Qualifications Licensed to practice medicine in Colorado as a medical doctor (M.D.) or doctor of osteopathy (D.O.) Board eligible (completed residency) or board certified in one of the following specialty areas: Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Preventive Medicine Provide board certification or proof of board eligibility and valid DEA license Required Competencies Provide direct patient care to inmates Knowledgeable in full‑spectrum primary care Skilled in office‑based procedures Maintain professionalism in a complex environment Excellent written and verbal communication skills Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders Read and comprehend the English language & communicate fluently in English, both verbally and in writing Create accessible documents and technical content following plain language guidelines Self‑control and ability to work in stressful, potentially violent situations, observe and remain alert, emotionally stable and mentally resilient under pressure Tolerance to stress, confinement and high‑stakes interaction Preferred Qualifications Experience providing medical care in a correctional environment Board certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine Experience managing chronic medical conditions as a physician Residency Waiver Applications will be considered from residents and non‑residents of Colorado, however applicants must still meet the minimum qualifications as stated above.
