Instructional Assistant - Wilmington, Delaware

Job Description

Step into a valued support role assisting middle school students with special needs in a dynamic academic environment. This contract opportunity spans from ASAP through June 2027, providing stability and meaningful engagement for the ideal paraprofessional. Working onsite near Wilmington, Delaware, you'll collaborate closely with 6th-grade special education students and their dedicated 1:1 paraprofessionals to foster an inclusive learning space.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

Current Delaware Paraeducator Permit (must be active; pending status requires a screenshot from the DEEDS portal)
Experience supporting students in a school or classroom, ideally within special education settings
Willingness to cover $85 CBC fingerprinting cost as required by the state
Ability to collaborate with a small educational team (1 adult: 2 students/shared para model)
Commitment to the full contract term and weekly schedule (M–F, 35 hours, 30-minute unpaid lunch)
For those with RBT credentials: supervision is not provided onsite; ongoing certification must be managed outside school hours independently

Position Duties:

Provide direct classroom assistance to two 6th-grade special education students within their assigned class
Work in tandem with 1:1 paraprofessionals to support educational and behavioral plans
Foster a nurturing, safe environment aligned with school protocols and student needs
Document and communicate student progress or concerns to the appropriate team members
Adapt support as needed under the direction of classroom teachers and special education staff
