HVAC Technician, UMKC Campus Facilities Management

Job Description As a UMKC employee within the MTS HVAC position, you will work in an engaged, diverse community and interact daily with faculty, staff, and students from a variety of backgrounds. You will perform HVAC maintenance and repair for campus buildings, including permanent and movable equipment, and have the opportunity to broaden your skillset by working alongside electrical and plumbing trades. Key Responsibilities Install, repair, and maintain HVAC systems, including hot water and steam heating systems and chilled water cooling systems; use testing equipment to check controls and balance airflow. Perform sheet‑metal work, duct and diffuser installation, and operate centrifugal chillers and steam absorption chillers. Maintain pneumatic, electrical, and electronic control systems; prepare documentation to support preventive maintenance. Assist with HVAC repairs including floods from broken equipment as needed. Locate parts, prepare purchase requests, and recommend equipment purchases for consistency in maintenance and repair. Clean areas upon completion; return materials and equipment, restoring the area to its original state. Clean, maintain, safely operate, and properly store all tools and equipment. Observe and enforce all safety requirements related to equipment operation. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent; five years’ actual work experience and training—including apprenticeship or vocational training—in the trade. Knowledge and skill in the maintenance and use of tools, equipment, and materials used for general building maintenance. Manual dexterity and physical coordination. Ability to read blueprints, plans, drawings, wiring diagrams, and electrical codes. Valid driver’s license required.
