Salary: $143,400 - 143,400 per year Requirements:

• We require 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
• We expect experience with Linux systems programming using C, Rust, Python, or Bash.
• We require experience with virtualization or emulation technologies such as KVM, QEMU, Docker, or similar tools.
• We look for familiarity with embedded Linux concepts, including the boot process, systemd, device drivers, or Yocto/Buildroot.
• We require experience with shell scripting and systems automation.
• We require a BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or an equivalent background.
• We prefer experience with ARM64 architecture or Graviton instances.
• We prefer experience with QEMU device emulation, the QMP protocol, or custom QEMU plugins.
• We prefer experience writing device drivers or working with micro-controllers.
• We prefer experience with network virtualization, including WireGuard, bridge networking, and TAP/TUN interfaces.
• We prefer familiarity with satellite systems, hardware test environments, or simulation platforms.
• We prefer experience with EC2 bare-metal instances and SSM for remote commanding.
• We prefer experience with AMI or image-building pipelines such as EC2 Image Builder or Packer.
• We prefer familiarity with certificate provisioning, secure boot, or HSM interfaces.
• We prefer experience with Python packaging and container image management tools such as ECR or Docker.
• We prefer experience using Rust for systems programming.

• We own the Graviton bare-metal virtualization layer, including KVM/QEMU VM management, subsystem start and stop, health monitoring, and fault recovery.
• We develop embedded software in Rust, C, C++, and other modern languages for the virtualization and emulation layer.
• We write device drivers and system applications for satellite systems running on virtual hardware.
• We build software that interfaces with micro-controllers and emulated hardware peripherals such as FPGA, HSM, and sensors.
• We build and maintain the custom AMI pipeline that pre-configures satellite dependencies to reduce provisioning time and prevent dependency drift.
• We develop and refine provisioning scripts that deploy satellite software, firmware, and certificates onto emulated LRUs via SSM.
• We implement plugin framework extensions for new LRU types on the Graviton host.
• We build network virtualization between VMs, including WireGuard tunnels, inter-entity networking, and TT&C link emulation.
• We optimize boot time and provisioning latency for QEMU-based satellite instances.
• We debug issues across the host OS, guest OS, and QEMU emulation layers.
• We develop fidelity improvements such as HSM crypto emulation, EFUSE emulation, CAN bus simulation, and error injection frameworks.
• We work closely with software and hardware teams to support board bring-up and integration testing.

Amazon Leo is Amazons low Earth orbit satellite network, and our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. In this role, we build and scale VirtSat, our virtual satellite simulation platform used across Leo to create, provision, and test virtual satellites, ground gateways, customer terminals, and TT&C antennas on EC2 bare-metal infrastructure running KVM/QEMU. We operate at the intersection of cloud infrastructure, embedded Linux, and satellite operations, and the platform we build is used to test every Leo satellite software release before launch.
