Unit Overview

The Pediatric Hematology/Oncology unit consists of 11 beds and specializes in caring for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults facing various hematological and oncological challenges. Our multidisciplinary team delivers comprehensive, family-centered care throughout the treatment journey, which includes chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, bone marrow transplants, symptom management, and end-of-life care. As a center engaged in clinical research, we provide patients with access to groundbreaking clinical trials while ensuring compassionate, evidence-based care that aims for optimal outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough patient assessments and identify subtle clinical changes, using your judgment to intervene promptly and advocate for your patients.
• Administer safe, evidence-based medications, treatments, and hands-on care, relying on strong clinical judgment.
• Collaborate with physicians and advanced providers, offering insights that facilitate timely and coordinated care decisions.
• Deliver clear and compassionate education to patients and families, ensuring they feel informed and prepared for the next steps in their care.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record to enhance continuity and patient safety.
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, contributing to effective communication and smooth transitions of care.
• Engage actively in a collaborative team environment where shared accountability and teamwork directly influence outcomes.

Qualifications

• Active New Jersey Registered Nurse license in good standing.
• Current American Heart Association BLS certification.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Certification, and APHON Chemotherapy Certification are required.
• Minimum of 1 year of pediatric experience is necessary.
• Previous experience in Pediatric Oncology is preferred.
• An Associate’s degree in Nursing is required; a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is strongly preferred.
• Prior patient care experience and familiarity with electronic medical record systems (EMR), such as EPIC, are advantageous.
• This position requires working the Night Shift, 36 hours per week, from 7 PM to 7:30 AM.
