About the Position

Job Title: Med Surg/Tele RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Infusion/Oncology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours (1900 to 0730) Experience: Minimum 1 year of acute care experience License: Active RN license required Certifications: BLS required Must-Have: - Comfort with managing and titrating drips - Experience with complex patients Description: Unit has 27 beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:4-5 during the day/evening shifts and 1:6 during the night shift. Higher ratios may occur if working short (up to 1:7). Common diagnoses include oncology, hematology, general medical issues, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, and weakness. Oncology or chemotherapy knowledge is not required. Internal staff will assist with treatment needs. Candidates must have experience with drips, including titratable and set rate drips such as insulin, heparin, Cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide. Blood transfusion management and titration experience is also necessary. Centralized telemetry technicians monitor and read strips; nurses are not required to do so but must be tele aware. There is a charge nurse and house supervisor on all shifts. The charge nurse takes a modified patient assignment but may ask travelers to step into charge if comfortable. Nurse aides are available, with a ratio of 1:7-9 during day/evening shifts and 1:14 overnight. Respiratory therapy staff are on-site 24/7 for support. Scheduling requests are accommodated but block scheduling cannot be fully guaranteed. Weekend and holiday requirements include every other weekend and rotating holidays. Floating may occur primarily within medical-surgical units, generally done in four-hour increments. All clinicians must clock in and out while on duty.
