Professional Liability Attorney | Sophisticated Matters | HybridPosition OverviewWe are seeking a seasoned Professional Liability Attorney to join our firm on a hybrid schedule. The successful candidate will handle sophisticated professional liability mattersprimarily legal malpractice and medical malpracticealongside related commercial litigation. This role requires courtroom-tested litigation skills, strategic case management, strong client counseling, and an ability to work collaboratively across practice teams. The attorney will manage complex dockets, develop defense strategies, and advance high-stakes matters from intake through resolution or trial.Key ResponsibilitiesManage a diverse caseload of professional liability matters, including legal malpractice, medical malpractice, and related commercial litigation.Develop case strategy, draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, and prepare witness and expert testimony.Handle all phases of litigation: intake, investigation, dispositive and evidentiary motions, hearings, settlement negotiation, mediation, and trial preparation and participation.Conduct legal research and prepare persuasive briefs, motion practice, and trial exhibits.Coordinate and manage expert witnesses, medical/technical consultants, and vendors; evaluate expert reports and prepare expert depositions.Counsel and maintain close client relationships; provide regular case updates, risk assessments, and settlement recommendations.Supervise and mentor associate attorneys, paralegals, and support staff; delegate tasks and review work product for accuracy and quality.Work with claims teams and insurance carriers on coverage, indemnity, and defense cost matters.Participate in business development activities, including client development, networking, and proposal drafting to expand the practice.Ensure accurate and timely timekeeping, billing, and compliance with firm and professional ethics rules.QualificationsJuris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active admission to the state bar where practice is required.5+ years of litigation experience focused on professional liability; demonstrated experience in legal malpractice and medical malpractice matters strongly preferred.Proven commercial litigation experience, including motion practice, discovery management, and trial experience or substantial trial preparation.Excellent legal research, writing, and advocacy skills; ability to draft compelling briefs and pleadings under deadline pressure.Experience managing experts, including selection, preparation and cross-examination of expert witnesses.Strong client counseling skills with the ability to present risk assessments and settlement strategies to sophisticated clients and insurers.Proven ability to manage a high-volume, complex caseload and to mentor junior attorneys and staff.Comfortable working in a hybrid environment with occasional travel to court, client sites, and mediations/hearings as needed.Professionalism, sound judgment, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to ethical practice and client service.BenefitsMedical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, flexible spending accounts, 401K, PTO, Bonus Program
