Assistant Principal

Job Details Location: Old North Academy - Saint Louis, MO 63107 Position Type: Full Time Role: Assistant Principal / Academy Principal Purpose Statement The job of Assistant Principal/Academy Principal is designed to provide assistance to the Principal in the administration of the school program; direct assigned school site programs and services; serve as a resource; supervise assigned staff; coordinate school activities; and address issues, situations, or problems that arise on campus or with enrolled students. Functions may vary depending on school site assignment. Essential Functions Attends after‑school events such as athletic events and fine arts presentations to ensure an administrative presence. Chairs various school committees (school culture, social, wellness, PBIS, etc.) to coordinate activities and ensure outcomes achieve school, network, and state objectives. Conducts classroom observations, provides post‑observation feedback, and co‑teaches when necessary to ensure the quality of instruction at the assigned school site. Facilitates the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of quality learning to enhance excellence, equality, and equity for staff and students. Facilitates meetings and processes to meet curriculum guidelines and ensure network and state mandates are achieved. Implements policies, procedures, and/or processes to provide direction and comply with mandated requirements. Intervenes in occurrences of inappropriate student behavior to assist students in modifying such behavior and developing successful interpersonal skills. Manages a variety of school administrative functions (disciplinary policy, school schedule, assessment schedule, etc.) to enforce school, network, and state policy while maintaining safety and efficiency of operations. Oversees Special Education and the student discipline program that focuses on academics and behavior to ensure compliance and encourage positive performance. Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars to convey and gather required information. Partners with the site Instructional Coach to review data for preparation of required network reporting to the state. Prepares a wide variety of materials (assessment results, student activities, grade‑level/master schedules, correspondence, etc.) for documentation and communication. Represents the school within community forums to maintain ongoing community support and establish relationships with families and community members. Supervises staff teaching performance and attendance, arranges for substitute teachers when needed, and provides feedback for improvement to ensure coverage and curriculum objectives. Supports the principal in varying roles depending on site assignment to provide assistance with administrative functions. Other Functions Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the school site. Qualifications Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications – Skills, Knowledge and Abilities.Skills are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks and occasionally upgrade skills to meet changing conditions. Competencies include planning and managing projects, using pertinent software applications, preparing and maintaining accurate records, administering personnel policies, applying curriculum and instructional techniques, conducting meetings, counseling and mentoring teachers, performing critical observation, enforcing discipline policies, facilitating meetings, investigating problems, planning agendas, and resolving conflict.Knowledge is required in algebra and/or geometry; reviewing and interpreting highly technical information, writing technical materials, and speaking persuasively to implement desired actions; analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Competencies include laws and regulations related to education, concepts of management and supervision, practices of personnel administration, and knowledge of community resources.Abilities include scheduling activities and meetings; gathering, collating, and classifying data; working with diverse individuals and groups; operating equipment using standardized methods; independent problem solving to analyze issues and create action plans; and working with frequent interruptions while maintaining a positive school climate and motivating staff. Responsibilities Responsibilities include working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives; directing other persons within a department or across several small work units; monitoring budget expenditures; and utilizing resources from other work units to perform job functions. Work Environment Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling; some climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 25% sitting, 50% walking, 25% standing; performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury or illness. Experience and Education Minimum of 4 years teaching and/or administrative experience. Master’s degree in a related area. Required Testing None Specified Certificates and Licenses Valid Administrative Credential. Maintains necessary certificates and licenses; Criminal Background Clearance. FLSA Status: Exempt.
