We are looking for an Accounting Manager to provide hands-on leadership for insurance accounting activities in Dallas, Texas. This 6 month Contract position will focus on the financial oversight of corporate insurance programs, partnering with accounting, finance, risk management, and external advisors to maintain accurate reporting and analysis. The ideal candidate brings deep experience with reserves, claims, reconciliations, and close activities, along with the ability to improve documentation and strengthen accounting processes.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee accounting operations tied to the organization’s insurance programs, including workers’ compensation, general liability, auto liability, and directors and officers coverage.

• Examine and reconcile insurance-related ledger balances to support accurate monthly and quarterly reporting.

• Evaluate incurred but not reported reserve activity and other estimated liabilities to ensure appropriate financial recognition.

• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, reserve updates, premium expense distributions, and claim-related accounting transactions.

• Coordinate the allocation of insurance costs across business units and projects using consistent and supportable methodologies.

• Partner with risk management teams, actuaries, brokers, and third-party administrators to assess claims trends and reserve sufficiency.

• Contribute to month-end close activities, account reconciliations, and the preparation of insurance-related financial reporting.

• Assist with internal and external audit requests by organizing support, explaining accounting treatment, and validating reported balances.

• Recommend enhancements to procedures, controls, and documentation to improve the effectiveness of insurance accounting operations.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• At least 7 years of accounting experience, including substantial exposure to insurance accounting in a corporate setting.
• Strong understanding of insurance reserves, incurred but not reported accounting, claims accounting, premium accounting, and general ledger activity.
• Experience with cost allocations, chargebacks, and accounting for directors and officers insurance programs.
• Ability to interpret actuarial reports and assess reserve calculations for financial reporting purposes.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience working within large enterprise resource planning environments.
• Background supporting month-end close, account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement audits.
• Experience with commercial and casualty insurance programs; exposure to self-insured, captive, or large deductible structures is preferred.
