Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant, Critical Care

Job Summary We are seeking a full‑time (40‑hour week) Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (AP) to join our Critical Care team at Wentworth‑Douglass Hospital, 789 Central Avenue, Dover, NH. The role offers scheduling flexibility based on the selected candidate’s preference, with optional rotating (day/night) or dedicated nocturnist schedule. Day shift hours are 7:00 AM–7:00 PM; night shift hours are 7:00 PM–7:00 AM. The AP will work ten 12‑hour shifts per month and may pick up additional open shifts as desired. No call requirement is associated with this role. The AP will provide comprehensive, high‑acuity care to critically ill patients in a collaborative ICU setting, working closely with attending physicians, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members to deliver evidence‑based care. Key responsibilities include assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and ongoing management of patients with complex medical conditions requiring intensive monitoring and intervention. Additional duties encompass daily rounds, responding to changes in patient condition, coordinating care transitions, and participating in family discussions and goals‑of‑care conversations. The AP may also support bedside procedures, consultation services, and cross‑coverage based on departmental needs. Essential Functions Provide direct care, counseling, and education to a designated patient population in ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural settings. Perform complete histories and physical examinations. Order, interpret, and evaluate appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests. Develop appropriate plans of care and follow‑up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings. Order medications and write prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures. Consistently provide high‑quality and timely documentation, including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes, and discharge summaries. Perform bedside procedures appropriate to the patient population. Qualifications Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing required. Experience in lieu of a degree is not accepted. Licenses and Credentials: Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN‑NP) with state license, generic HR‑only required. Experience: Minimum two years of licensed nurse practitioner experience; one to two years required. At least one year of critical care, emergency medicine, or equivalent inpatient setting experience is required, which may include completion of a residency or fellowship.
