Accountant I (Specialist)

Job Description and Duties

This position is located in the city of Sacramento .

Under the direction of the Senior Accounting Officer (Supervisor) in the Revolving Fund/Employee Services Unit, the Accountant I (Specialist) is responsible for processing payroll warrants, managing payroll accounts receivable, clearing salary advances, and preparing monthly reconciliations and reclassifications. Additional responsibilities include answering the main telephone line, verifying Aware system checks, assisting with CalDOR Payment Card (CPC) billing and Business Enterprise Program (BEP) Monthly Operating Report entries, and performing other technical duties as assigned.

The incumbent must follow oral and written instructions; provide excellent customer service; respond effectively to the needs of the public, departmental staff, and external agencies; and work courteously, tactfully, and cooperatively with others. The incumbent is also expected to analyze situations, exercise good judgment, take effective action, work independently, demonstrate initiative, and maintain a neat and professional presence.

Working Conditions

The majority of the work will take place in one of the following locations with consumers, the public, colleagues, and other stakeholders: a DOR open office setting in a cubicle environment, offsite in the community, at events and various partner locations, and/or at an approved alternate work location. The incumbent must have the ability to work in an office setting for up to 40 hours per week and remain at a workstation for extended periods while utilizing a personal computer, peripherals, and other office equipment with or without accommodation. The incumbent will be working in an office setting with both natural and artificial lighting. Strong interpersonal skills are required to interact effectively with consumers, the public, colleagues, and other stakeholders.
