Accounting Manager

We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee operational accounting activities for a growing real estate organization. This role will lead the day-to-day accounting function, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, and serve as a key partner to the Asset Management team. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for property-level financial performance reporting, month-end close, budgeting support, cash management, and process improvement initiatives across a diverse real estate portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Reporting

• Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
• Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
• Ensure accuracy of general ledger activity and financial statements.
• Oversee property and corporate accounting functions across multiple entities.
• Prepare and review monthly financial reporting packages for leadership.
• Maintain compliance with accounting policies and internal controls.

Asset Management Partnership

• Partner closely with the Asset Management team to analyze property performance and operating results.
• Assist with property-level budgeting, forecasting, and reforecasting processes.
• Track and report on key property metrics, capital expenditures, and investment performance.
• Support acquisition, disposition, refinancing, and due diligence activities.
• Provide financial insights to assist with strategic asset decisions.

Operational Accounting

• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, and lease-related accounting activities.
• Monitor operating expenses and investigate significant budget variances.
• Review CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, and property operating statements as applicable.
• Coordinate reserve and escrow accounting activities.
• Ensure accurate fixed asset and capitalization accounting.

Leadership & Process Improvement

• Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
• Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls.
• Assist in the implementation and optimization of accounting systems and workflows.
• Collaborate with operations, property management, treasury, and executive leadership teams.

Audit & Compliance

• Coordinate annual audits and tax-related requests.
• Support lender, investor, and ownership reporting requirements.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
• Maintain documentation and audit-ready support schedules.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within real estate, property management, or commercial real estate.
• Previous supervisory or management experience.
• Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and general ledger accounting.
• Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and asset management initiatives.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with accounting or property management software.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• CPA designation preferred but not required.
• Experience with multi-entity and multi-property environments.
• Knowledge of lease accounting, CAM reconciliations, and real estate investment structures.
• Experience working directly with Asset Managers, Property Managers, and executive leadership.
