Murphy's Family Staffing is recruiting an experienced Manual Machinist / Manual Lathe & Mill Operator for a well-established hydraulic repair and machining facility in York, Pennsylvania .

This is an opportunity to work in an exceptionally clean, professional, HEATED AND AIR-CONDITIONED MACHINE SHOP with modern equipment, excellent ventilation, and an employee gym!

We're looking for a skilled machinist who enjoys precision machining, one-off parts, repairs, and figuring out how to make something work.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

This is a hands-on manual machining position focused on manufacturing, repairing, and restoring precision metal components.

Responsibilities include:

• Set up and operate manual engine lathes and manual milling machines.
• Machine, repair, and restore hydraulic cylinder components, shafts, bushings, sleeves, and other precision parts.
• Perform turning, boring, facing, drilling, tapping, threading, and milling operations.
• Work with steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other metals.
• Machine replacement components from existing worn or damaged parts.
• Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, dimensions, and specifications.
• Perform accurate measurements using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and bore gauges.
• Hold close tolerances, including ±.001" when required .
• Diagnose machining problems and determine appropriate setups and repair methods.
• Inspect completed parts for accuracy, finish, and fit.
• Safely operate shop equipment and maintain a clean, organized work area.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

REQUIRED:

• 3+ years of hands-on manual machining experience.
• Experience independently setting up and operating manual lathes.
• Experience independently setting up and operating manual milling machines.
• Ability to read blueprints and work from measurements or existing parts.
• Experience holding tight machining tolerances.
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability.
• Dependable attendance and reliable transportation.
• Commitment to quality workmanship and shop safety.

HIGHLY DESIRABLE:

• Hydraulic cylinder repair or hydraulic equipment experience.
• Machining shafts, bushings, pins, sleeves, and large metal components.
• Bridgeport milling machine experience.
• Horizontal boring mill or large manual lathe experience.
• Internal and external threading.
• One-off machining, repair machining, or reverse engineering worn components.
• Experience using grinders and other manual machine shop equipment.

IMPORTANT: You do NOT need previous hydraulic cylinder experience if you are already a skilled manual machinist!

We're more interested in finding someone who can confidently operate manual lathes and mills, make accurate parts, and solve machining problems.

This is NOT a CNC-only position. Candidates must have actual hands-on manual machining experience.
