Head of Accounting

Role Description

The Head of Accounting will own the full accounting function as the first dedicated accounting hire on the platform. Reporting directly to the CFO, this individual will translate Montera’s development pipeline into a disciplined, institutional-grade financial platform.

• Establish REIT-ready accounting infrastructure from day one.
• Build the chart of accounts and govern project accounting across a multi-billion-dollar capital program.
• Ensure that financial reporting aligns with underwriting models, lender covenants, and investor expectations.
• This is a hands-on builder role, not an oversight role.
• In the first 12-18 months, this person will:
• Personally own the close, post entries, and build reconciliations.
• Stand up the ERP, write the policies, and execute REIT testing.
• Design the systems and processes that will let the function scale.
• The right candidate is a CPA who:
• Is energized by being in the details.
• Has deep technical depth in REIT accounting and tax.
• Has lived in CIP and capitalization in capital-intensive development environments.
• Is excited to build rather than maintain.
• As Montera scales, this role is expected to evolve with a clear path to grow into VP Controller and ultimately Chief Accounting Officer.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license required.
• 5+ years of direct data center industry experience (hyperscale, colocation, or digital infrastructure).
• 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including time in senior accounting leadership roles in capital-intensive industries.
• Demonstrated REIT experience required, including REIT-asset and income testing.
• Strong tax leadership background, with hands-on experience leading tax compliance in a REIT, real estate, or infrastructure environment.
• Strong technical accounting expertise, including U.S. GAAP and financial reporting.
• Proven ability to build and scale accounting infrastructure.
• Experience partnering with capital markets and finance teams.
• Track record of cross-functional leadership.
• High attention to detail combined with strong judgment.
• Big-4 audit or large public accounting foundation strongly preferred.

Requirements

• Build and run the accounting function as a hands-on operator.
• Design and stand up the chart of accounts, reporting hierarchy, and accounting framework for a REIT-structured platform.
• Own REIT accounting, asset/income testing, and compliance from day one.
• Lead all tax processes, including federal, state, and local income tax compliance.
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close.
• Design and implement accounting policies and technical frameworks.
• Lead all project/development accounting.
• Build and maintain a best-in-class internal control environment.
• Implement ERP and financial systems strategy.
• Develop the KPI and management reporting framework.
• Partner closely with the CFO and Capital Markets.
• Lead audit processes, coordinating with external auditors.
• Ensure ongoing regulatory and standards compliance.
• Present financial reports and analytics to executive leadership.
• Operate as an individual contributor at start, with the opportunity to scale the team over time.

Compensation

The reasonable compensation range for this role is $180,000 – $225,000.
