Special Education Teacher | Norwich, Connecticut

Job Description

Step into a rewarding role supporting high school students as a Special Education Teacher in a dynamic educational environment. This full-time contract position offers the opportunity to make a lasting difference for students in a structured behavior program, serving those with ED, OHI, and ADHD classifications. Your expertise will be essential in helping students achieve their academic goals during the 2026-2027 school year.

This position begins as soon as possible and runs through June 2027. You’ll work weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the support of skilled paraprofessionals who assist in both the classroom and general education settings. Your caseload will include 11 students, each receiving personalized instruction tailored to their needs; some will attend all core academic periods within your classroom, while others will spend multiple class periods elsewhere.

Key Qualifications:

Valid certification as a Special Education Teacher (appropriate state credentials required)
Experience or training in high school special education, particularly working with behavioral and emotional disabilities (ED, OHI, ADHD)
Strong classroom management and differentiation skills
Ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals, general education teachers, and support staff
Commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive learning environment

Role Responsibilities:

Plan and implement individualized education programs (IEPs)
Teach and support students in both self-contained and mainstream class settings
Develop effective behavioral interventions and instructional strategies
Coordinate with paraprofessionals to ensure seamless student support
Participate in parent meetings, progress reports, and multidisciplinary team discussions
