Associate Attorney

Company Description: Thomas & LoCicero PL ("TLo") is the leading media law firm in Florida, representing local, state, and national media entities and publishers in a wide-range of issues, including defamation defense, public records and court access, and prepublication review. As a boutique litigation practice, we also handle complex litigation beyond the media space, including commercial disputes, such as invasion of privacy, unfair competition, contract issues, and antitrust, as well as intellectual property infringement. We also represent major trademark owners in managing their trademark portfolios, and we routinely handle copyright and trademark registration, policing, and related disputes. Our offices are in Tampa and Fort Lauderdale, allowing us to handle cases statewide and across the country. In addition to litigation, the firm focuses on preventative counseling, helping clients avoid disputes through proactive legal advice. Role Description: TLo is seeking an attorney with to join our media and trademark practice in our Tampa office. Depending upon the attorney's particular interests and client needs, opportunities at TLo will include providing defamation defense and prepublication review and advice; assisting clients with public records matters; responding to media subpoenas and helping to protect newsgathering; performing trademark clearance reviews; prosecuting trademark and copyright applications; responding to PTO office actions; handling trademark opposition and domain-name proceedings; litigating media, trademark, and business disputes in Florida's state and federal courts; and drafting trademark and copyright agreements. We are seeking an attorney who will be present in our Tampa office, though we provide flexibility to work remotely consistent with the needs of the firm and our clients. We are looking for a lawyer who is committed to building a successful practice, has a strong passion for the First Amendment and a free press, and will develop relationships with TLo's existing and new clients. Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have impressive academic credentials, strong research and writing skills, and experience in litigation generally, and media and trademark law in particular. Prior work in all of the firm's practice areas is not required. Must have a passion for and commitment to the First Amendment, free speech, and free press issues. An active membership in The Florida Bar is preferred, although the firm is willing to consider attorneys who plan to apply for admission in the Sunshine State. A few years of prior work experience, ideally in civil litigation is preferred, but TLo will consider a candidate newly out of law school; media and/or intellectual property experience is preferred. Ability to manage multiple matters, meet deadlines, and collaborate in a team-oriented environment.
