Job Details Job Title: Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant Starting Date: Immediately Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $62,888 to $87,740 per year Location: Harlandale Independent School District, Special Education Department – San Antonio, Texas Primary Purpose The Speech-Language Assistant (SLPA) provides speech-language pathology services to students under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. The SLPA implements treatment plans and collaborates with educators and parents to support students’ communication skills. Qualifications Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in communicative science and disorders; Texas licensure as Speech-Language Assistant. Special Knowledge/Skills: Ability to use accepted tests and measurements to assess communication disorders and conditions. Knowledge of evaluation, habilitation, and rehabilitation of speech-language disorders and conditions. Ability to instruct and manage student behavior. Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience: 50 hours of clinical experience and observation. Responsibilities and Duties Therapy Implement the treatment program or Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) designed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist. Conduct carry-over activities to help students generalize new communication skills. Provide input on speech pathology in preparation for Admission, Review and Dismissal (ARD) Committee meetings. Consultation Consult with colleagues, students, and parents regarding the accomplishment of therapy goals, the needs of the student, and involvement in the remedial process. Collaborate with classroom teachers to plan and implement classroom activities to improve communication skills of students. Communicate with the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist regarding student progress and needs. Student Management Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students. Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook. Program Management Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents. Comply with policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and district policies. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations. Track and document provided services and student achievement to the standards outlined by the district. Maintain a professional relationship with supervisors, colleagues, students, parents, and community members. Other Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures. Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Mental, Physical, and Environmental Demands Tools/Equipment: Standard testing equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals. Posture: Frequent sitting, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting. Motion: Frequent walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension. Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds), occasional heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint; assisting non‑ambulatory students. Environment: Exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, and communicable diseases; may require district‑wide travel. Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure.
