Assistant Controller

A fast-growing, profitable software and analytics company located in the DC Metro area seeks a hands-on Assistant Controller to join the team as the accounting leader in a currently lean environment. This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys building infrastructure, improving processes, and owning the accounting function end-to-end. Key Responsibilities: Own and manage the full accounting cycle, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close Clean up and enhance existing accounting processes, ensuring accuracy and scalability Develop and implement accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls Manage revenue recognition, with a focus on subscription-based revenue models Maintain and optimize current accounting system Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules for leadership Partner with leadership on financial insights, reporting, and operational decision-making Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and other third-party partners Drive process improvements and prepare the organization for future system upgrades (ERP readiness) Participate in hiring and building out the accounting team over time Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred) 6-10+ years of progressive accounting experience Experience in a software / SaaS or subscription revenue business model required Strong knowledge of GAAP and revenue recognition principles (ASC 606) Hands-on experience with QuickBooks (or similar systems in earlier-stage environments) Proven ability to build processes and improve accounting operations Comfortable working independently in a lean, fast-paced environment Strong attention to detail with a proactive, problem-solving mindset Excellent communication skills and ability to partner with non-finance stakeholders #J-18808-Ljbffr Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing Services
