Cardiovascular Perfusionist

We welcome candidates for the Cardiovascular Perfusionist position on our Cardiothoracic Surgery team at Garnet Health Medical Center Middletown. Responsibilities The Cardiovascular perfusionist provides clinical support by managing cardiopulmonary bypass, supporting mechanical circulatory technologies, and collaborating with surgical and ICU teams on blood conservation strategies. The role requires proficiency with modern platforms, strong communication skills, and teamwork to ensure patient safety. Responsibilities also include education of staff to advance practical knowledge and safety strategies, equipment care, turnover, sampling/monitoring, and participation in scheduled department meetings. Qualifications Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited perfusion education program, certified through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP). Minimum Experience: New graduates with strong clinical rotations encouraged; 1–3+ years of independent adult cardiac perfusion experience preferred. Prior experience with ECMO, cell salvage, and advanced blood management strongly preferred. Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) by ABCP (or board‑eligible with certification obtained within an agreed timeframe). Current New York State license (or eligibility; must be secured prior to start). BLS and ACLS required (or within 90 days of hire). Physical Requirements Light to medium work: ability to stand for prolonged periods and move/position equipment with assistance as needed. Manual dexterity and visual/auditory acuity sufficient for equipment operation and monitoring. Use of PPE in sterile and semi‑restricted environments. Working Conditions Works in a clean, well‑lighted, heated or ventilated facility; no routine exposure to hazards. Remote and hybrid remote positions may require on‑site presence if operationally necessary. Physical demands: able to perform full anatomical range of motion, lift 10 lbs., endure long periods of sitting, standing or walking. Mental demands: foster collaborative relationships, work well under pressure, organize and synthesize information, prioritize tasks, critical thinking, analytical skills, flexibility, multitask, attention to detail, sensitivity to customer needs, may be subject to irregular hours including evenings or weekends.
