Service to the Armed Forces: Specialist (Cherry Point)

Position Note: Remote work is not available for this position; on‑site attendance is required. Mobile SAF-IS Regional Program Specialist This position is regional and part of our mobile staff, requiring strict medical and security clearances. Worldwide deployment is a condition of employment, with staff typically deploying for 6 months at a time, once every 18‑24 months, to any military base worldwide. Relocation assistance is available only for current employees within a 50‑mile radius of the division. Responsibilities Relationship Management and Community Outreach Builds strong relationships with military leadership, key organizations, and community leaders. Cultivates relationships and partnerships with external constituents in the local community, including government organizations, corporate partners, civic organizations, and other community charitable and nonprofit agencies. Builds community presence through enhanced marketing opportunities with the local Armed Forces Network, social media platforms, and local base advertising. Volunteer Management Develops and implements local needs assessment and Volunteer Program Plan using the Volunteer Resources process. Recruits and trains leadership volunteers to support placement and supervision of staff and programs. Utilizes the Volunteer Connection Platform to manage, document, train, recognize, and communicate with volunteers. Service Delivery Management Supervises volunteer Service Delivery staff. Coordinates services to military treatment facilities and VA hospitals through rehabilitation programs, material assistance, resiliency training, and morale items. Ensures community outreach, including command meetings and education briefings. Manages support services to military members and families, including family follow‑up information and referrals. Provides support for the emergency communications center with local information. Develops outreach strategies to promote International Services U.S. programs. Financial and Reporting Management Develops and manages budgets and expenditures to keep programs within budget. Monitors and reports on program outcomes and results, ensuring continuous improvement. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration, human resources management, community organization, social or health sciences, or related field; or equivalent experience. Minimum 5 years related experience in program management or a related field. Strong computer, public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well individually or as part of a team. Ability to balance multiple priorities. Work Conditions Work may require visiting other locations, standing, walking, and moving light to medium weights up to 20 pounds. Requires good hand‑eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, visual acuity for keyboard use, equipment operation, and reading technical information. May involve sitting for long periods, driving, and working under challenging conditions. Exposure to safety and health hazards related to emergency services relief work. May be on 24‑hour call during major disasters. Mobile Positions Only (Domestic and Overseas) Mobile staff perform the same basic responsibilities as non‑mobile staff but must also deploy on short‑term assignments worldwide. Requirements unique to mobile positions Support day‑to‑day operations and emergency needs of the Hero Care Center as part of the Hero Care Network Contingency Team. Maintain casework proficiency through trainings, shifts, and readiness drills. Respond to emergencies, surge, and disaster situations as needed. To Maintain Readiness Maintain all medical and security requirements. Engage in annual deployment familiarization programs, including trainings and meetings. When activated to deploy, participate in additional trainings and meetings. Mobility Requirements U.S. citizenship, secret security clearance, and no‑fee U.S. passport. Worldwide mobility as a condition of employment. Accept work assignments anywhere in the world, including conflict areas. Meet strict medical and physical requirements, including required U.S. military immunizations. May be required to wear military uniforms and live/work in harsh and stressful environments. Periodically accompany the military on deployments. Competitive Edge Passion for supporting military members with physical stamina and emotional capacity to work in harsh climates.
