Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences

Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences The position plays a critical role in the training of veterinary students by providing expertise in clinical specialties, contributing to clinical science lectures and laboratories, problem-based learning facilitation, and curriculum development. The role also involves engaging in scholarly activities, advancing clinical sciences, and supporting the training of students across all levels of the DVM program. Additionally, the position requires active participation in college and university committees, as well as contributing to institutional governance and curriculum innovation. If applicable, maintaining a California veterinary license and any relevant specialty certifications is also expected. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Individuals must possess this knowledge, these skills, and abilities, or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. Ability to orally communicate with others and effectively interact with administration, faculty, staff, students, and outside contacts. Ability to handle detail-oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality. Organizational skills necessary in prioritizing workload and delegating responsibility. Knowledge of educational needs for contemporary veterinary practice. Knowledge and skills in his/her discipline. Demonstrate a commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism. Required Qualifications Education An advanced degree (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD), PhD, or equivalent degree) in the discipline of expertise is required. Licensure (if applicable) Actively licensed or eligible to be licensed as a Veterinarian in the state of California preferred. Current Veterinary specialty board certification preferred. Experience The college is seeking an optimal match between individual qualifications and assessed ability to contribute to the College’s mission. All qualified candidates will be considered. Preferred Qualifications (None specified) Key Responsibilities Contribute to the training of veterinary students in Foundational and Clinical Sciences. Participate in the curricular activities for Year 1 and 2 students, including content expertise in the various disciplines, facilitation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) activities, foundational science lectures & laboratories, clinical science lectures & laboratories, skills development, veterinary issues discussions and presentations, and other ancillary activities as determined in the curriculum development process. Provide leadership and/or instruction for Year 3 and 4 courses and activities, including core and selective rotations supervision and oversight. Pursue scholarly endeavors and professional self-development, with opportunities to engage in research, as negotiated. Develop a self-sustaining research program. Participate in the development of post-DVM training programs. Participate in the research mentoring of veterinary students. Participate in local, national, and/or international continuing education programs. Participate in college and university committees. Represent the college to external persons and agencies, including funding agencies. Maintenance of the California veterinary license (and any specialty board certification) and associated continuing education to keep license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of California current (if applicable). The employee is frequently required to use hands, reach with hands and arms, stoop, and sit. The employee is frequently required to move from room‑to‑room or building‑to‑building while on campus, and may be required to travel to off‑campus sites for curricular delivery. The employee generally must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds in normal office settings. The employee may be required to work with live animals of various species and sizes as part of curricular delivery. The employee must be able to demonstrate appropriate behaviors and physical capacity to work with live animals according to generally accepted professional guidelines. The employee must be able to travel when required to deliver the essential functions of the job. Describe Work Environment The work environment is typically an office, classroom, or laboratory setting. Depending on the professional specialty, curriculum duties may require different environmental settings including classrooms, farms, clinical practices, research laboratories, and other off‑campus settings. Occasionally the employee is exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate due to telephone calls, office equipment, normal student traffic, and animal noises. Some travel is required, and the environment may change to regional norms. Virtual delivery of the curriculum might be considered. The expected pay scale is defined as the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Placement within the expected pay scale is determined by internal equity and relevant qualifications.
