About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 Years License: Pending License Accepted Certifications: ACLS, BLS Must-Have: Strong experience with cardiac post-operative patients, Experience with CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR, temporary pacemakers, epicardial wires, and chest tubes. Ability to manage IV drips, particularly titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips. Description: The registered nurse will provide care to patients in a step-down unit specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. Patients will be admitted pre-operatively and continue through surgery, post-operative care, and discharge. Common surgical procedures include coronary artery bypass graft, mitral valve repair or replacement, aortic valve repair or replacement, aortic aneurysm repair, Maze procedure, transcatheter aortic valve replacement, heart transplant, and left ventricular assist device implant. Nurse to patient ratios vary from 1:3 to 1:5 depending on patient acuity. The unit provides interdisciplinary support including physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation services, phlebotomy, rapid response teams, pharmacy, and unit secretaries. The patient population consists of individuals requiring care for heart surgery, transplant, bypass, valve replacement, and chest pain. The role requires experience with telemetry, blood product administration, and management of dysrhythmias. All travelers will float within the service line as needed. No on-call requirements are necessary for this position. Weekend coverage is required every other weekend.
