About the Position

# Job Opportunity – Emergency Department Holding / Float Pool RN – North Carolina Start Date: October 26, 2026 Location: Wilmington, North Carolina Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants Schedule: Night shift, 36 or 48 hours per week. Every other weekend required. Target ratios: 1:6 for MS/Tele patients or 1:4 for PCU level patients. 12-hour orientation provided. Highlights: - ED Holding Support position located in the Float Pool, caring for patients awaiting inpatient beds within the Emergency Department- High-acuity, fast-paced environment with adult medical/surgical and PCU level patients- Contract duration: 13+ weeks through February 27, 2027 (hard stop) to support the facility through the holiday season- Required floating to ED and MedSurg areas as needed; flexibility and adaptability essential- EMR: Epic; medication system: Pyxis; standard equipment includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and telemetry systems- Maximum 7 days of pre-approved time off; must work 2 of 3 major holidays Requirements: - Active North Carolina or Compact RN license- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required- Previous travel nursing experience required- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required- Must successfully pass EKG testing prior to start date- Core competencies: MS/Tele, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, telemetry monitoring (unit and remote), blood product administration, colostomy and feeding tube care, renal failure management, peripheral and PICC line care, phlebotomy, heparin and insulin protocols, isolation precautions, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, airway management, oral suctioning, oxygen administration, tracheostomy management, and rapid response team utilization- Preferred skills: NIHSS, IV insulin protocols, pre/post hemodialysis management, port access, central line blood draws, IV starts, CVA care, pre/post neuro surgery, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, ortho trauma, total joint replacements, and wound care/wound vac- Must be available and willing to serve on Storm Team/Hurricane Team and report during catastrophic events or disasters- Candidates must complete 8-10 hours of pre-start online modules using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge Why It's a Great Opportunity: This critical role supports the Emergency Department during a high-volume period, offering exposure to diverse patient diagnoses and advanced clinical skills in a dynamic environment.
