Job Summary

The Public Works Business Operations Coordinator is a key role within the Public Works Department. This position encompasses diverse responsibilities, including streamlining workflows, coordinating cross-departmental processes, and optimizing resource allocation for improved efficiency. The role requires a strong understanding of county policies and ordinances and involves tasks such as procurement processes, asset management, data analysis, and addressing customer inquiries. ?

Major Essential Duties

  • Analyze trends and workflows to support continuous improvement through metric analysis.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and a positive, solution-focused mindset in a dynamic environment
  • Collaborate on budget reviews, and financial analysis.
  • Embraces change with a willingness to shift priorities, processes, and responsibilities as business needs evolve.
  • Inspire and guide Public Works teams to achieve strategic goals while fostering trust, accountability, and innovation.
  • Adapt to challenges, maintain resilience, and focus on results using data-driven decision-making.
  • Integrate economically, environmentally, and socially responsible practices into daily operations.
  • Monitor and report sustainability metrics, including tracking work orders, hours, and costs within the Asset Management system.
  • Act ethically and consistently in all business dealings.
  • Foster transparency by openly sharing goals, policies, challenges, and achievements.
  • Promote open dialogue with employees, customers, and suppliers to build collaborative relationships.
  • Ability to use current and modern technology including Microsoft platforms and AI.

Minor Essential Duties

  • Assist with the Department’s snow removal operations
  • Ability to take on new tasks or projects as needed to support department goals.

  • None

Relationships

  • The Business Operations Coordinator performs duties within the Public Works Department, under the direct supervision of the Business Operations Manager

Requirements:

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Graduate of a standard high school, vocational school or the equivalency, supplemented by experience, training or education which provides the desired knowledge, skills and abilities to perform required duties in the Administrative Services Division?
  • Experience and knowledge of the functions pertaining to Public Works, and maintain a working knowledge of modern office procedures and equipment?

Language Skills

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, professional publications, and governmental regulations??
  • Ability to write reports and business correspondence?
  • Possess strong oral, written, and listening skills???

Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals

Reasoning Skills

  • Interprets a variety of technical and instructional information
  • Makes decisions which serve the county’s best interest and follows the missions and objectives of the Public Works Department

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Kentucky driver’s license

Other Knowledge and/or Skills

  • Basic computer skills with ability to access programs such as but not limited to Microsoft Office products. Asset Management Software experience is preferred. Capability to provide reports and spreadsheets as needed.?
  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures?
  • Ability to work under limited supervision

Physical Demands

  • While performing job duties, the employee could reasonably be expected to:

  • Use hands to type, handle paper.
  • Occasionally (under 1/3 of regular working day)
  • Stand or Walk.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
