Accounts Payable Specialist

PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The full-time Accounting Payable Specialist will work alongside our Accounting Department to ensure our organization’s accounts payables are recorded accurately and timely. The Accounts Payable Specialist must exercise discretion in executing essential functions and be able to work independently, while following through on assignments. Location: Cordova, TN Essential Functions Process daily mail. Process invoices for payment through proper approval procedures. Work with vendors and staff to resolve invoice discrepancies. Review vendor statements for past due invoices and work with vendors and internal departments to keep accounts current. Serve as backup and assist with running checks as needed. Assist with training staff on using the electronic expense reporting system, and processing of expense reports. Complete monthly and annual financial reports for various departments and entities. Maintain grant backup documentation. Perform other duties as assigned. Leadership Competencies Mission Advancement: Accepts and demonstrates the Y’s values. Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Associate’s degree preferred or equivalent. Knowledge of general ledger and accounting functions preferred. Experience in data entry with working knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing. Strong customer service and relationship building skills. Excellent problem solving skills. Work Schedule The schedule for this position is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, though overtime, evenings, and weekend work will be required depending on the business needs.
