Position Overview The Senior Accountant at DCC’s Mountainside, NJ facility will be a key member of the finance team, responsible for maintaining the integrity of financial reporting, owning the account reconciliation process, and supporting cost accounting and compliance across a fast-paced commercial print and packaging manufacturing environment. Reporting to the CFO, this role partners closely with operations, production, estimating, and plant leadership to provide actionable financial insight that drives profitability and efficiency. Some exposure to a manufacturing floor environment is expected, and extended hours may be required during month‑end close, audits, or peak production periods. Key Responsibilities Own all accounting operations in strict accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), ensuring consistency, accuracy, and auditability across all financial records. Manage month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid amortization, and depreciation schedules. Own and manage the full account reconciliation process across all balance sheet accounts, including cash, AR, AP, inventory, fixed assets, accrued liabilities, and intercompany accounts. Establish and maintain a monthly reconciliation schedule and tracking system, reviewing completed reconciliations for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate supporting documentation so that no account is missed during closing. Investigate and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner, escalating material variances to the CFO, and drive continuous improvement in reconciliation quality, turnaround time, and variance resolution. Oversee job cost accounting for commercial print and folding carton production, including tracking of materials (paper, board, substrates, ink), direct labor, press time, bindery and finishing, and overhead allocation. Review work‑in‑progress (WIP) and finished goods inventory valuations and ensure timely, accurate cutoff at period end. Partner with production and estimating teams to analyze job profitability, cost variances, and margin trends, translating results into actionable recommendations for plant leadership. Maintain and update standard cost models, budgeted hourly rates, overhead absorption rates, and labor rate calculations. Support pricing strategy with cost data, margin analysis, and scenario modeling. Design, document, and enforce internal controls across accounting processes to safeguard company assets and ensure data integrity. Lead preparation for external audits, coordinating PBC requests, preparing supporting schedules, and serving as the primary point of contact for auditors. Identify control gaps and recommend process improvements; implement corrective actions as approved. Support tax preparation activities including sales/use tax, property tax, and annual income tax filings in coordination with the external CPA firm. Ensure all accounting policies and procedures are documented, current, and aligned with GAAP; monitor changes to GAAP guidance and assess the impact on company reporting practices. Support lender and stakeholder reporting requirements, including borrowing base and covenant compliance schedules, in partnership with the CFO. Support special finance projects and initiatives as needed, including acquisition integration and system improvements, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to continuous improvement of accounting operations. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CPA candidate a plus. 2-5 years of progressive accounting experience. Demonstrated expertise in GAAP, including revenue recognition, inventory valuation, fixed asset accounting, and accrual‑basis reporting. Proven track record managing a comprehensive account reconciliation process across multiple balance sheet accounts. Experience in a manufacturing environment; commercial print, packaging, or a related industry strongly preferred, with an understanding of production workflows and job‑based costing. Experience with job costing and cost accounting in a print, packaging, or manufacturing setting preferred. Familiarity with print and packaging estimating systems and production workflow software (ePS Pace or similar) preferred but not required. Experience coordinating external audits and preparing audit workpapers preferred. Exposure to multi‑entity or multi‑location accounting environments preferred. Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, XLOOKUP, financial modeling, variance analysis) and ability to learn new technology platforms quickly. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial results to non‑financial partners in operations and production and build credibility at all levels of the organization. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast‑paced environment. Demonstrated discretion and ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the highest level of professionalism and integrity. Problem‑solving mindset with sound judgment and the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across finance and operations.
