HR Generalist

Position Summary The Human Resources Generalist supports the daily operations of the Human Resources Department by administering a variety of HR functions, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, performance management, onboarding, training, policy compliance, and personnel records management. The HR Generalist serves as a resource to employees and managers, ensuring the consistent application of organizational policies, employment laws, and best practices. Key Responsibilities Coordinate and facilitate orientation and hiring activities. Screen applications, schedule interviews, and conduct preliminary candidate assessments. Organize pre-employment orientation activities. Serve as a point of contact for employee questions and concerns. Promote positive employee engagement and workplace culture. Assist employees with benefits enrollment and changes. Coordinate annual open enrollment activities. Administer leave programs, including FMLA, ADA accommodations, and other applicable leave policies. Liaise with benefits providers and vendors. Support performance evaluation processes. Assist managers with employee development plans and coaching strategies. Coordinate employee training and professional development programs. Maintain training records and ensure compliance with requirements. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. Assist with policy development, implementation, and communication. Maintain personnel files and HR records in accordance with legal requirements. Prepare reports and documentation related to HR activities and compliance audits. Maintain employee information within the HR information system. Generate workforce reports and employment metrics. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Three to five years of progressively responsible HR experience. Knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and related requirements. Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information. Proficiency with HRIS, MS Office Suite, and applicant tracking systems. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. Preferred Qualifications Experience in recruitment, employee relations, benefits administration, and HR compliance. Experience within the public sector or municipal government. Familiarity with HR systems such as ADP. Certifications such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR.
