Job Description
Job Description
Chaloner has partnered with Repair the World on their search for a Development Director.
About
Repair the World mobilizes Jews and their communities to take action to pursue a just world igniting a lifelong commitment to service. We believe that service in support of social change is vital to a flourishing Jewish community and an inspired Jewish life. By 2030, Repair will catalyze one million acts of service toward repairing the world.
Repair is building a national Jewish service movement. We mobilize young adults to serve in their communities, catalyze service through deep partnerships within Jewish communal organizations, and inspire people to take action through time-bound thematic national service campaigns. Our mission provides volunteers with an increased connection to meaningful service and learning as a Jewish value, builds capacity for nonprofit partners to meet their missions, and deepens connections across lines of difference.
Position Overview
Are you a relationship-driven fundraiser who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment? Repair the World is seeking an experienced frontline fundraiser to serve as Development Director for our San Francisco Bay Area and Chicago communities.
In this role, you will lead all fundraising efforts across both markets, managing a portfolio of individual donors, foundations, federations, and corporate partners while actively identifying and securing new philanthropic investment. You will serve as the primary development presence in two of Repair’s most dynamic communities, partnering closely with local Repair the World staff and lay leaders.
As part of a national seven-person development team, you will be supported by centralized infrastructure, including grant writing, prospect research, database management, and development operations. This structure enables you to focus primarily on frontline fundraising and donor engagement. You will collaborate regularly with senior leadership, the C-suite, and members of the board of directors, and serve as the primary staff partner to the Bay Area and Chicago chairs of the Solel Collective, Repair’s major giving initiative for donors contributing $10,000 or more annually.
This full-time, exempt position reports to the Senior Director of Development. The Bay Area represents a significant opportunity for growth, with a strong and expansive Jewish philanthropic community. Given this potential, candidates must be located in the San Francisco Bay Area; candidates outside this area will not be considered. Travel to Chicago, approximately once per month, will be required to cultivate and steward donor relationships.
Position Responsibilities
Fundraising and Revenue Generation
- Lead all fundraising efforts for Repair the World Bay Area and Repair the World Chicago, developing and executing local strategies aligned with national development priorities.
- Own and achieve annual fundraising goals across both markets through a diversified portfolio of individual donors, foundations, federations, and corporate partners.
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of donors and institutional partners, with a strong emphasis on individual giving as a primary growth driver.
- Identify and develop new funding opportunities within the Bay Area and Chicago Jewish philanthropic communities, expanding Repair’s base of supporters.
- Actively solicit gifts through one-on-one meetings, proposals, and strategic engagement opportunities, and build a robust prospect pipeline.
- Represent Repair the World in meetings, events, and convenings with donors, foundations, and community partners across both cities.
Major Donor Engagement: The Solel Collective
The Solel Collective is Repair the World’s primary major gifts initiative and a key driver of individual giving growth in both markets.
- Lead efforts to grow and steward local communities of $10,000+ donors, cultivating new members and strengthening a culture of major giving.
- Serve as the primary staff partner to the Bay Area and Chicago Solel Collective chairs.
- Over time, support the development and engagement of local Solel Collective committees to expand major giving and deepen donor relationships.
- Design and execute high-impact engagement opportunities, including service experiences, briefings, and events that connect Solel Collective members to Repair’s mission and impact.
Donor Engagement and Community Presence
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for donors in both markets, providing thoughtful stewardship, impact updates, and meaningful engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with local program staff to design and execute donor experiences that connect supporters to Repair’s initiatives on the ground.
- Build strong relationships across Jewish communal institutions, philanthropic partners, and civic leaders in both cities.
Strategy, Planning, and Internal Partnership
- Partner closely with the national development team to align on strategy, coordinate donor engagement, and contribute to national campaigns and initiatives.
- Collaborate with local and national leadership on portfolio strategy, funder communications, and meeting preparation.
- Manage an active portfolio of prospects and donors, developing strategies to move relationships toward investment.
- Track and report on progress in Salesforce and collaborate on goal-setting and revenue tracking.
- Support storytelling efforts in both cities to strengthen local visibility and donor engagement.
Position Skills & Core Competencies
We know that you may not have all the skills listed. We encourage you to apply even if you only check some of the boxes.
- Frontline Fundraising & Donor Stewardship: Demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and institutional donors, with a proven track record of closing four- and five-figure gifts. Deep understanding of fundraising principles and practices, including securing grants, building diversified funding streams, and implementing stewardship strategies that inspire long-term donor relationships and ensure program sustainability.
- Partnership Development & Community Building: Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain high-level relationships across diverse sectors, including donors, lay leaders, and philanthropic entities across their cities.
- Strategic Vision & Planning: Proven ability to develop and execute local development strategies, set ambitious goals, identify new funding opportunities and balance long-term vision with day-to-day execution across a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
- Service Mindset: Commitment to serving others, grounded in a belief that we can make a difference in making the world better by serving alongside our neighbors to meet community needs.
- Growth Mindset & Resilience: Demonstrates advanced resilience and empathy, with a proven ability to adapt strategically to change. Exhibits a mature, solution-oriented mindset that views challenges as opportunities for organizational growth and personal development.
Requirements
- 5+ years of nonprofit fundraising experience with strength in cultivating and closing gifts from individuals, foundations, federations, and Jewish and secular funders.
- Comfort and proven track record as a frontline solicitor with demonstrated success in closing five and six-figure gifts.
- Experience with Salesforce (or similar fundraising CRM), Donor Search (or similar tool), Google Suite, and prospect research.
- Knowledge of and connection to Jewish communities and funders in the cities.
- Ability to travel within the US as needed.
