Facility Broughton Hospital, a State Psychiatric Hospital serving the Western Region of NC, is recruiting for a permanent full‑time Physician (Internal Medicine/Family Practice). The facility offers 24‑hour inpatient care to adolescent, adult, deaf, and geriatric patients. Hospital hours are 8:00 am–5:00 pm Monday through Friday with an on‑call schedule for medical emergencies. Job Details Job Classification Title: Physician (NS) Position Grade: MH26 Recruitment Range: $147,932.00 – $295,863.00 Position is permanent, full‑time (30–40 hours per week) Location: Broughton Hospital, Western Region of North Carolina Responsibilities Provide medical services to assigned caseload and make daily rounds on assigned units. Assess and evaluate physical findings, laboratory and radiographic studies, and consults; translate evaluations into orders and other staff communications. Direct ongoing management of medical conditions throughout patients’ hospitalization. Complete patient history and physical assessments. Respond to and participate in the management of medical emergencies for all client groups experiencing acute medical decompensation. Collaborate with treatment teams to effectively exchange medically significant information and take a leadership role in creating treatment plans. Provide service to Employee Health such as treatment of medical emergencies and clearance of employees to return to work after illness. Supervise Physician Extenders directly under this position’s license and co‑supervise other remaining Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners. Other duties as assigned by the Medical Director as needed. Coverage encompasses the entire hospital for medical emergencies while on call. Perform Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and Focused Professional Practice Evaluations (FPPE) in addition to NCVIP for subordinate staff. Screen referrals for admission for acceptance for evaluation based on the patient’s medical stability. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Graduation from an accredited school of medicine and completion of residency. Full and unrestricted medical license in North Carolina. Board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine or American Board of Family Practice (preferred). Conditional Requirements Pass a State Bureau of Investigation Criminal History Check. Complete and pass BLS/CPR training and Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) training during orientation. Sign‑on Bonus A sign‑on bonus of $20,000 may be offered to the successful applicant(s) of this posting, contingent on 2025–2026 budget approval. Eligibility requires a newly hired permanent full‑time or permanent part‑time employee to work 30–40 hours per week; those working less than 40 hours will receive a prorated rate. Employees are NOT eligible for a sign‑on bonus if: (1) they have held a position in the North Carolina State government, including the judicial system or the University of North Carolina system, within the last 12 months; (2) they have previously received a sign‑on bonus from any State agency; or (3) DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fee. All sign‑on bonuses are contingent upon budget and final eligibility determination as of the effective date of hire.
