Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Trauma General Surgery Inpatient - Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: Must have Epic experience. Must have Level 1 trauma experience. Must have experience with a 1:6 patient ratio. Description: This unit consists of a 30-bed Trauma and General Surgery inpatient unit. It is a high-impact, fast-paced nursing unit that manages challenging patient-care situations. Nurses have the opportunity to practice at the top of their scope and abilities. The unit encounters a variety of patient conditions and care modalities. Complex wound care, various drains and devices, traumatic injuries, including chest-wall injuries requiring chest tubes and respiratory support, and traumatic brain injuries present unique challenges. Nurses also care for complex spinal cord injuries and other medical and surgical conditions. Collaboration occurs with care management, surgical and medical services, rehabilitation services, and perioperative services. The unit also recognizes the significance of bariatric surgery for patients, helping them with their weight-loss journey. Nurses experience both step-down and floor patients, allowing them to manage a breadth of care as well as deep critical thinking in the step-down setting. The patient-to-nurse ratio is maintained at 1:6 for floor patients and 1:3 for step-down patients. Cancellation policies may apply regarding shifts during the contract. Monitor techs are available, but nurses are expected to validate readings. Floating to similar units may be required. Scrubs are in royal blue.
