About the Position

Job Title: Stepdown RN Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1 year License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS Must-Have: Cardiac experience preferred Description: This position is for a Stepdown RN in a cardiac unit. The unit has a total of 32 beds, consisting of 22 stepdown beds and 10 floor beds. The nurse-to-patient ratio in stepdown is 1:3, and in the floor, it is 1:5 or 1:6. Registered Nurses are required to titrate drips, including heparin, insulin, nitro, Cardizem, nicardipine, Lasix, amiodarone, and dobutamine. There is a dedicated charge nurse for the unit during the shift. Three house supervisors are present in the building at all times. The goal is for a free charge nurse; however, depending on staffing, they may be assigned 1-3 patients. Clinical associates are available on the unit. Typically, overnight staffing runs with 2 clinical associates (1:16 ratio), but the budget is for 4 (1:8 ratio). Respiratory therapy equipment includes nasal cannulas, CPAP, BiPAP, HFNC, and trach to vent, with dedicated respiratory therapy for the floor. Tele monitor technicians are present in tele rooms, monitoring and recording telemetry strips. Registered Nurses are not required to read their own telemetry strips. Self-scheduling is allowed, and block scheduling is generally flexible. Weekend requirements include working 3-4 weekend shifts, 2 Fridays, and 2 Mondays within a 4-week schedule. Holiday requirements include working an evening and a day shift during certain holidays. There is no call or standby requirement. Floating to other units may be necessary, with travelers being the first to be pulled off the unit if needed. The dress code is royal blue scrubs. Unit-specific orientation will be provided.
