Executive Vice President
$260k - $300kWorkspire
Competitive salary ranging between $260k and $300k base, plus performance-based incentive structure and comprehensive benefits Full-Time, Exempt Reports to Regional President About The Opportunity Workspire is partnering with a trusted leader in industrial construction and lifecycle solutions serving thousands of customers across the United States. This organization is scaling aggressively and building out a new regional structure. They need an exceptional leader to establish and run the Upper Midwest region from the ground up. As Regional Vice President for the Upper Midwest, you will lead operations across Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota, establishing Chicago as the operational hub for a regional expansion targeting $500 million to $1 billion in annual revenue. This is a true build opportunity- not a caretaker role. You will drive predictable operations (safety, margin, schedule, quality, cash) while simultaneously diversifying the service-line revenue mix into mechanical and structural, soft crafts, underground/UMI services, coatings, civil, and instrumentation and controls. You will recruit Area Managers to own geography-based P&L, establish regional field operations leadership to scale delivery capability, and create an operating cadence that turns aggressive growth targets into repeatable results. This role demands someone who blends operational rigor with commercial credibility: a leader with established industry relationships, builds teams who pride themselves on craftsmanship and reputation, and executes with urgency. You will be visible to senior leadership and have real influence over enterprise strategy. What you will do First 6-12 Month Objectives Establish a predictable regional operating system across safety, quality, profitability, and cash management. Implement weekly and monthly business reviews with clear KPI ownership, early risk identification, and documented corrective actions aligned to the organization's strategic plan. Recruit and develop Area Managers (geography P&L owners) and align with Service Line Managers (field vertical leaders) to fill critical gaps in Mechanical and Structural, Soft Crafts, and Service delivery. Prioritize hires who bring customer relationships and team-building capability. Map service-line diversification strategy and roadmap for the region. Define a prioritized leadership hiring sequence, identify market adjacencies (e.g., power generation, wastewater, advanced manufacturing), and establish baseline delivery capacity and playbooks for non-electrical verticals. Drive customer and market expansion through relationship-based business development. Grow key accounts, handle escalations, and position the company as a full-service industrial partner capable of delivering integrated solutions across multiple service lines. Launch safety culture alignment and metrics governance across the region. Ensure leaders understand and actively support TRIR, EMR, and leading indicator discipline; align multiple safety cultures during integration and growth without destabilizing field execution. Ongoing Responsibilities Own regional P&L outcomes: forecasting, revenue and backlog management, margin discipline, overhead cost control, and cash/billing governance in partnership with finance. Manage to budget and reforecasts with discipline and transparency. Lead organizational design and leadership bench build. Hire Area Managers and influence Service Line Manager alignment. Screen candidates rigorously for cultural fit (urgency, integrity, excellence); build teams from prior networks without damaging culture. Drive service-line expansion governance. Identify vertical gaps, prioritize hires, and build delivery playbooks that scale across the Upper Midwest footprint. Ensure non-electrical service lines grow in absolute volume without shrinking electrical and mission‑critical performance. Execute customer‑facing leadership. Attend customer meetings, negotiate scope and change, handle escalations, and maintain executive presence with decision-makers throughout the region. Build trust such that customers award repeat work across multiple service lines. Support project controls and pre‑construction discipline. Work with the corporate Project Controls group to ensure all projects adhere to budgeting, costing, productivity tracking, scheduling, forecasting, and change order standards. Enforce company values from the top down. Screen for and coach toward urgency, integrity, exceeding expectations, and delivering excellence. Eliminate candidates who speak in generalities; require story‑based examples and specific, measurable outcomes. What We Are Looking For Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. 15 or more years of progressive leadership experience with significant operational responsibility, including full P&L accountability for large, complex, multi‑site or multi‑business operations, with direct experience managing sustainable P&L larger than $400MM/yr. Proven ability to scale operations, implement operating discipline, and drive transformation in high‑growth environments. Strong financial acumen and hands‑on experience managing large budgets, forecasting, margin management, and KPI‑driven operating cadence. Exceptional leadership, decision‑making, and execution capabilities with a clear bias for urgency. You can provide specific, story‑based examples of time‑sensitive decisions, outcomes, and lessons learned. Commercial credibility and established customer relationships that enable you to open doors, bring work, or materially influence pursuit outcomes through trusted client relationships. Proven track record of building and developing teams, recruiting leaders from prior networks, and developing bench strength as a primary growth enabler. Safety literacy and leadership capability. You understand TRIR, EMR, and leading indicators; you can articulate safety programs and results; and you actively support and push safety culture from the top down. Preferred Qualifications MBA or other advanced degree. Experience in construction, industrial services, manufacturing, energy, infrastructure, or similarly operationally intensive industries. Track record of operating in high‑growth and acquisition‑driven environments; comfort leading through integration and culture alignment. Demonstrated success leading national or enterprise‑scale operations. Direct experience expanding service lines beyond an incumbent core (e.g., growing piping, scaffolding, structural, underground, coatings, civil, or instrumentation and controls around a dominant existing service line). Power generation exposure, including nuclear or substation knowledge; relationships in mission‑critical, advanced manufacturing, or energy markets. Ability to lead through mergers, acquisitions, and integration activity while managing differing safety cultures and operating styles. What We Value Not a jerk. Confidence and ego backed by measurable results and genuine likability. A "hire-to-retire" mindset: you invest in people, develop the next generation, and pass knowledge down. Someone who acts with urgency while maintaining rigor; decisive without recklessness. A builder who thrives in early‑stage infrastructure work and ambiguity. If you meet 80-85% of these qualifications and the opportunity resonates, we still encourage you to apply. The best candidates often have atypical backgrounds; what matters most is your track record of driving results, building teams, and executing with excellence under pressure. Why This Role Stands Out Visibility and Influence: You report directly to the Regional President and have dotted‑line access to the Chief Operating Officer and executive leadership. Your decisions shape regional strategy and influence enterprise direction. True Build Opportunity: This is not optimizing an existing structure; you are building a region from the ground up. You will hire your leadership team, design the organizational structure, establish operating cadence, and scale a multi‑state operation. The agency and impact are real. Aggressive Growth with Foundation: Our partner is doubling in size and diversifying service‑line capability. You will be part of a high‑growth, acquisition‑driven environment where strategic leadership has the chance to shape culture and operations during critical scaling. Leadership Bench Development: You will mentor and develop Area Managers and Service Line Managers, creating a leadership pipeline and setting the tone for the organization’s development of its next generation of operators and commercial leaders. Market Adjacency Expansion: You will have strategic responsibility and authority to identify and enter new markets (power generation, wastewater, advanced manufacturing) and diversify revenue mix, expanding the platform beyond mission‑critical electrical into higher‑margin service lines.
