Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist (Microbiology E/O weekend)

Job Details Medical Laboratory Technician/Medical Laboratory Scientist (Microbiology E/O weekend) Position Summary This position works under general supervision and follows established laboratory procedures to perform routine medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. It may also include phlebotomy functions. The role complies with confidentiality, quality standards, and the organization’s mission. Responsibilities Perform specimen processing, test performance, and report test results. Arrange pickup or delivery of specimens sent to reference or outside labs. Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples. Adhere to laboratory quality control policies and document all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed. Identify factors that affect measurements and results and either correct the problem or refer to appropriate personnel. Recognize alert/critical test results, inform appropriate personnel, and document them. Communicate test results, normal ranges, and specimen requirements to authorized sources. Demonstrate technical laboratory skills to students and new employees. Ensure remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications. Hold off reporting patient test results until corrective actions are completed and the system is functioning properly. Administer testing according to policies and procedures. Apply Total Quality Management (TQM) guidelines to laboratory processes. Adhere to all company policies, including OSHA, HIPAA, compliance, and the Code of Conduct. Maintain regular and dependable attendance.
