Payroll Accountant

Responsibilities


Kforce has a client that is seeking a Payroll Accountant in Linthicum, MD.Summary:We are seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to support payroll accounting, payroll processing oversight, account reconciliations, and financial reporting activities. This role isresponsible for ensuring payroll transactions are accurately recorded, reconciled, and reported while supporting compliance with payroll regulations and company policies. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of payroll accounting, payroll tax reporting, general ledger reconciliations, and payroll systems.Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and review payroll for multiple payroll entities and employee populations
• Review employee updates from HR and ensure accurate payroll data and time reporting
• Maintain payroll documentation and support payroll process controls
• Reconcile payroll-related accounts including wages, payroll taxes, benefits, garnishments, and deductions
• Review and update payroll-related journal entries and general ledger postings
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities
• Analyze payroll data and investigate discrepancies or variances
• Support W-2 processing and year-end payroll reporting requirements
• Coordinate payroll reconciliations between internal records and third-party payroll providers
• Assist with payroll audits and provide supporting documentation as requested
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations
• Partner with HR, Benefits, Payroll, and Finance teams to resolve payroll-related issues
• Support process improvements and payroll system enhancements

Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business field
• 2-4+ years of payroll accounting experience
• Experience with payroll reconciliations and general ledger accounting
• Experience supporting the full payroll cycle, including year-end reporting and W-2 processing
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, payroll accounting, and payroll compliance requirements
• Knowledge of employee tax withholdings, benefits, garnishments, 401(k) plans, and payroll reporting
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP
• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and teamwork abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Workday Payroll, Time Tracking, and Absence Management
• Experience with ADP SmartCompliance
• Experience supporting multi-company or multi-entity payroll environments
• Payroll tax and payroll audit experience
• CPP certification a plus

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.


We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
