Respiratory Therapist - Ochsner Westbank

Position Overview We are seeking a Respiratory Therapist / Clinical Respiratory Technician to provide respiratory care treatment, oxygen services, diagnostic testing, and ventilation support for patients ranging from neonatal to geriatric. The role includes set‑ups, monitoring, weaning oxygen therapy, and assisting with artificial airway management. Key Responsibilities Perform routine and advanced therapeutic procedures according to established policy and procedure. Review and document all clinical information regarding each patient. Educate patients and co‑workers on procedures and treatment plans. Perform diagnostic procedures, including arterial blood gases and EKGs. Assist with changing artificial airways and delivering intermittent therapy. Provide care based on physical, psycho/social, educational, safety and related criteria appropriate to patient age. Adapt communication style and behavior to meet the specific needs of each patient population. Maintain knowledge of regulatory and accreditation standards and ensure compliance. Report any known or suspected unethical or questionable behaviors, patient privacy or safety concerns. Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. (No prior work experience required.) Current State of Louisiana license as a Respiratory Therapist. Certification by the National Board of Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association. Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information, proficient with Windows applications. Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly. Physical and Environmental Demands Requires frequent lifting of objects exceeding 20 pounds, prolonged standing or walking, and the use of mechanical lifting devices or team lifts. Must be able to stoop, bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands, sit or stand for prolonged periods, travel between facilities, and work a flexible 24/7, weekend, holiday, and on‑call schedule.
