Massara is seeking a dedicated pastry focused cook to join our team. This team member will assist in daily production that includes, but not limited too, laminated doughs, gelatos, in-house breads like ciabatta and focaccia, Italian pastries and more. Our ideal candidate is passionate about upholding Massara's standards and quality. While being passionate in Italian cuisine and providing our guests with high quality and consistent dining experiences.

Position summary - The pastry cook position includes working closely under the Pastry Sous Chef with daily production needs for the restaurant. The pastry cook will take a lead on organizing their station daily for service. To make sure they are fully set up and prepared to work a busy service while executing plated desserts up to Massara standards. The pastry cook will also help contribute ideas to the seasonal menus and holidays.

Core responsibilities

• Prepare mise-en-place, assemble, and plate pastry and dessert items according to recipes and kitchen standards.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of all pastry station items, ingredients, and menu offerings.
• Set up and organize pastry stations in a timely and efficient manner before service.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, kitchen equipment, tables, and storage areas throughout service.
• Uphold all Department of Health, food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards at all times.

Service & guest experience

• Contribute to a high-quality guest experience through consistent preparation, presentation, and execution of pastry and dessert items.
• Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, urgency, and a positive attitude in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Work collaboratively with the pastry and culinary teams to maintain smooth operations and efficient service flow.
• Show a strong commitment to learning, growth, hospitality, and culinary excellence

Qualifications:

• 1+ years of restaurant pastry/bakery experience
• Strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to work cleanly and efficiently.
• Ability to read, follow, and execute recipes accurately.
• Strong understanding of cooking techniques, and kitchen procedures.
• Ability to work successfully within a team-oriented environment.
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (8+ hours), and to crouch, bend, and lift or move 25+ lbs, with or without reasonable accommodation

Massara is an Italian restaurant from the team behind Michelin Starred Rezdora in the Flatiron District of New York City. The focus is on the cuisine of Campania, wood fired cooking and pastas of the region. We have a great team but are currently looking for a Pastry cook whom loves Italian food and wants to cook the food from southern Italia and surrounding regions in a very authentic, Italian way.

Compensation: Hourly ($19.00 - $20.00)
