Role Summary

• The Process Engineer 3 will support engineering and project execution activities within a manufacturing environment. The role combines project management, metallurgical engineering, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing process support.
• The engineer will lead and execute projects from concept through commissioning and handover, while working closely with operations, quality, maintenance, suppliers, contractors, and other engineering teams.
• This is a hands-on, cross-functional role that involves both engineering analysis and shop-floor support.

Key Responsibilities

Project Execution

• Lead and execute engineering projects from concept through commissioning and handover.
• Develop project scope, schedules, budgets, and risk-mitigation plans.
• Coordinate with operations, quality, maintenance, suppliers, and contractors to ensure successful project delivery.
• Support capital-project installation, equipment modifications, and startup activities.
• Track project progress, action items, risks, and deliverables.

Metallurgical Engineering

• Apply metallurgical principles related to steel, cast iron, alloys, heat treatment, and forming processes.
• Support material selection, process qualification, and metallurgical validation.
• Perform or coordinate metallurgical analysis, including:
• Microstructure analysis
• Hardness testing
• Mechanical testing
• Failure analysis
• Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions for material and process-related issues.

Mechanical Engineering

• Support mechanical-system design, including:
• Piping systems
• Fluid systems
• Quench systems
• Fixtures
• Equipment layouts
• Review mechanical drawings, specifications, and engineering calculations.
• Work with controls, electrical, and automation teams to develop integrated solutions.
• Evaluate equipment capability, reliability, and safety.

Manufacturing & Operations Support

• Provide technical support during production trials, troubleshooting, and manufacturing ramp-up.
• Support the resolution of manufacturing and equipment issues.
• Ensure designs and processes meet applicable safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and review technical documentation, engineering standards, and work instructions.
• Provide hands-on support in the manufacturing environment when required.

Communication & Leadership

• Serve as the technical point of contact for assigned projects.
• Communicate project status, technical issues, and recommendations to cross-functional teams and leadership.
• Coordinate external suppliers, contractors, and engineering service providers.
• Maintain clear project documentation and follow-up on action items.

A typical day may include:

• Reviewing project priorities, emails, and open action items.
• Coordinating with operations, quality, and maintenance teams regarding active issues.
• Analyzing metallurgical or mechanical data, including test results, drawings, and equipment-performance information.
• Supporting project execution through design reviews, supplier coordination, and schedule updates.
• Providing shop-floor and manufacturing support.
• Troubleshooting equipment, process, or material-related issues.
• Updating project trackers and documenting project decisions.
• Communicating project status, next steps, and action items to stakeholders.

Team Interaction

• Work alongside a team of approximately 5 8 engineers.
• Report directly to the Engineering Manager.
• Collaborate regularly with operations, quality, maintenance, suppliers, contractors, and other engineering functions.

Work Environment

• Primarily based in an office/air-conditioned manufacturing facility.
• Combination of office-based engineering work and shop-floor/manufacturing support.
• PPE is required when working in applicable manufacturing areas.
• Occasional travel to suppliers or other manufacturing sites may be required.
• Candidate Requirements

Education & Experience

• Experience: 5 7 years required.
• Degree: Bachelor's degree in:
• Mechanical Engineering
• Metallurgical Engineering
• Materials Science
• Or a related engineering discipline
• Experience in manufacturing, heavy industry, or industrial equipment environments.
• Working knowledge of metallurgical processes and mechanical systems.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.

Education/Experience Flexibility

• An Associate/2-year degree may be considered with 7+ years of relevant experience.
• A Master's degree may be considered with 3+ years of relevant experience.

Required Technical Skills

Project Management

• Understanding of project scope, schedule, cost, and risk management.
• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and stakeholders.
• Ability to track project deliverables and maintain schedules.

Metallurgical Engineering

• Understanding of metallurgical analysis and material behavior.
• Knowledge of steel, cast iron, alloys, and related manufacturing processes.

Mechanical Engineering

• Mechanical-system design and evaluation.
• Ability to review engineering drawings, specifications, and calculations.

• Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing and equipment issues.
• Experience supporting production trials, commissioning, or process improvements.

Supplier & Contractor Coordination

• Ability to work with suppliers, contractors, and engineering service providers.
• Strong technical communication and documentation skills.

Desired Technical Skills

• Understanding of heat-treatment equipment.
• Experience with heat-treat processes.
• Experience with steel, forging, casting, or surface-treatment processes.
• Experience supporting capital equipment projects or plant installations.
• Familiarity with mechanical design tools such as AutoCAD, Creo, or similar software.
