Immigration Attorney

Built by Upstart13 is seeking an experienced Immigration Attorney to join a growing legal team. This position is ideal for an attorney who combines strong expertise in U.S. immigration law with excellent client communication, case management, and team leadership skills.  

The successful candidate will independently manage immigration matters, advise clients on legal strategies, and oversee paralegals and support professionals in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.  

This role goes beyond handling individual cases. We are looking for someone who takes ownership, delegates effectively, maintains high standards of legal work, and ensures consistent progress across the team's caseload.  

Key Responsibilities  

• Independently manage immigration cases from initial client intake through filing and resolution.  
• Advise clients on immigration strategies, legal requirements, risks, timelines, and next steps.  
• Prepare and review immigration petitions, applications, legal arguments, Requests for Evidence (RFEs), and supporting documentation.  
• Manage a high-volume caseload while maintaining accuracy, responsiveness, and quality.  
• Supervise and provide day-to-day guidance to paralegals and legal support staff.  
• Delegate assignments, establish priorities, monitor deadlines, and ensure cases progress efficiently.  
• Track team productivity and address workflow, capacity, quality, and performance concerns.  
• Provide coaching, constructive feedback, and accountability to team members.  
• Maintain accurate case records and documentation within internal systems.  
• Identify and escalate significant legal, client, staffing, or deadline-related issues.  
• Collaborate with leadership on workload planning, client priorities, staffing, and operational improvements.  
• Meet productivity expectations while accounting for case complexity, matter mix, and available resources.  

Required Skills  

• Education: Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.  
• Licensure: Active U.S. bar license in good standing.  
• Immigration Law Expertise: Meaningful experience practicing U.S. immigration law, particularly employment-based and business immigration.  
• Case Management: Demonstrated ability to independently handle immigration matters from beginning to end.  
• Legal Skills: Excellent legal research, writing, analytical reasoning, and issue-spotting abilities.  
• Leadership: Experience supervising, directing, or working closely with paralegals and legal support professionals.  
• Client Communication: Strong communication and counseling skills, including explaining complex legal issues clearly and professionally.  
• Organization: Ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines, and a high-volume caseload.  
• Attention to Detail: Commitment to accuracy, high-quality legal work, and proactive risk management.  
• Remote Collaboration: Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication and collaboration with a distributed team.  
• Accountability: Strong ownership mentality, sound judgment, and the ability to make decisions and follow through on commitments.
