Position Summary Clinical Stabilization Services (CSS) for Substance Use Disorders LevelIII.5 provide 24‑hour, clinically managed detoxification services in a non‑medical setting. Services follow Acute Treatment Services for LevelIII.7 and include supervision, observation, intensive education, counseling, family outreach, relapse prevention, and after‑care planning. The behavioral health counselor delivers specialized therapeutic groups, supports individual and group care, and links patients to peer support and after‑care services. Responsibilities Conduct individual counseling sessions, under supervision, as scheduled and document as required. Conduct group and/or family sessions, under supervision, as scheduled and document as required. May co‑facilitate assigned group or family sessions. Conduct initial and follow‑up assessments for patients. Prepare individual treatment plans for each assigned patient. Ensure all documentation regarding patient care, treatment and incidents is completed timely and in a clear and concise manner. Act as a liaison between referral sources and patients. Provide crisis intervention to patients, as needed. Plan aftercare for assigned patients. Act as a liaison with insurance carriers, as requested. Provide case management duties for patients, ensuring individualized quality care. Evaluate patient needs and determine if referrals to other programs or facilities are necessary. Assist with milieu management. Encourage patients to take prescribed medication for substance use disorders, mental health conditions, or medical issues. Develop and implement recovery plans in collaboration with colleagues, clinicians, and patients. Use caring, non‑judgmental language and employ motivational enhancement techniques and motivational interviewing to help patients identify and prioritize personal needs. Conform to hospital standards of performance and conduct, including patient rights and privacy. Utilize hospital policies and standards as the basis for decision making and to support the hospital's mission and goals. Perform other duties assigned or as necessary. Adhere to all BMC’s RESPECT behavioral standards. Qualifications Education : Bachelor’s degree in social or health services field with at least 2 years of counseling experience, or a bachelor’s degree in another field with at least 4 years of counseling experience. A master’s degree in social or health services field with at least 1 year of professional work experience is preferred. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (preferred): LADC or CADC. Experience : Minimum 2 years of experience working in a health‑care or substance‑use treatment setting with individuals with substance use disorders. Knowledge and Skills : Knowledge of community, social, and health resources, particularly substance‑use‑related resources. Understanding of drug and alcohol use and ways to optimize safe use; lived experience is preferred. Empathic understanding of patients and skill in multicultural needs assessments. Ability to develop concrete service plans and collaborate with a multidisciplinary health‑care team. Computer competency, including data entry and entry into electronic records. Strong organizational, critical‑thinking, and problem‑solving abilities in a fast‑paced environment. Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Optional bilingual or multi‑lingual skills appropriate to the patient population. Flexibility with client priorities, evolving needs, and goals. Sensitivity to ethnic, cultural, gender, and sexual orientation diversity. Demonstrated critical‑thinking and problem‑solving ability. Compensation Range: $25.48 – $37.02 per hour.
