This contract position focuses on delivering specialized instruction to students with Emotional Behavioral Disorders (EBD) or significant behavioral challenges in a self-contained classroom setting. You’ll work 35 hours per week alongside dedicated colleagues, providing structure, encouragement, and tailored learning strategies to help every student thrive.

Qualifications:

• Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) Special Education license for Secondary Education (required)
• Certified in Rhode Island Structured Literacy proficiency, or able to complete certification within one year as required by the Right to Read Act
• Experience working with high school students in special education settings, particularly those with EBD or behavioral challenges, strongly preferred
• Strong classroom management and behavioral intervention skills
• Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and communicate effectively with staff, students, and families
• Compassion, patience, and flexibility in adapting strategies for individualized student needs

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students, tracking progress and ensuring goal attainment
• Manage a self-contained classroom environment that fosters growth, safety, and positive behavior
• Deliver structured literacy instruction and behavioral interventions aligned with best practices and student needs
• Monitor and assess student performance, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary
• Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and counselors to support inclusive learning and transition planning
• Maintain consistent communication with families regarding student progress and support needs
